ArcheAge Chronicles video highlights its acrobatic combat and vast persistent online world

A couple of weeks ago XLGames and Kakao Games showed off a rebranded and revised ArcheAge 2, with the name of ArcheAge Chronicles and a label of online action RPG, though it certainly looked like an MMO to us. That still appears to certainly be the case as executive producer Yongjin Ham penned a dev diary about the vision for the title.

“One of our key goals is to translate the tense, acrobatic combat found in single-player action games into a vast, persistent online world,” Ham’s post opens. “This blend of genres allows us to make ArcheAge Chronicles more accessible to a wide array of players.” That said, the aim is to also make Chronicles feel familiar to series fans as well, with references in the story and familiar activities like trading, crafting, and housing.

The post also promises plenty of things to do for solo or group play, a deepening of housing to make it more cooperative, a closer connection between crafting and character progression, and confirmation that caravan running will bring the risk of PvP aggression along with more organized PvP activities like colosseum fights.

Many of these topics are further elaborated on in the video below that takes players behind the scenes of the game’s development, while future dev blogs are promised soon.
