The card game Magic: The Gathering is no stranger to crossing over with various IPs, whether it’s Doctor Who, Transformers, or Hatsune Miku, but there hasn’t been a lot of intersection between that game and MMOs ever since Magic Legends shuttered in 2021. That kind of changes next year, which is when the world of Final Fantasy will intersect with the CCG on June 13, 2025 in an all-new card set.
Every single numbered mainline game in the franchise will be represented with the upcoming new set, including spells, summons, characters, and locations. And as that header image confirms, that also includes Emet-Selch from Final Fantasy XIV. A video announcing the collab further lauded brand-new artwork made specifically for this upcoming set from both MTG’s and Final Fantasy’s artists.
This upcoming collab is just one of several coming down the pike, including Secret Lair card drops featuring characters from Marvel and Spongebob Squarepants. But of course, we’re just going to marvel at the incredibly rich Emet-Selch art. And we suppose some of the other pieces, too.
Next up is a video with Zakeel Gordon, the product architect of #MTGxFINALFANTASY, and Shoichi Ichikawa-san, Producer at @SquareEnix, to discuss the set. It arrives June 13, 2025!
