Astroneer is a beloved multiplayer sandbox around here, but even we were surprised back in September when System Era Softworks announced Glitchwalkers – its first formal DLC in seven years. And as of last night, Glitchwalkers has officially walked its way into the game – sans glitches, we hope.
“Astroneer: Glitchwalkers takes players to a brand new glitched solar system that Bl!tZ has coded together for herself within the ATP,” System Era says. “Players are tasked with traversing this new dangerous space to counter hack Bl!tZ’s digital storms and return the ATP to normal.”
The system contains one new planet, Aoeluz, with new music, glitched storms, hacked storms, a new mission chain, new lore entries, new modules and points of interest, new NPCs, and of course, new loot. Aeoluz itself – the biggest in the game – includes eight “new biomes, dangerous terrain, unique points of interest, and new mechanics,” plus a cave overhaul. The DLC is $9.99 on Steam, which gets you the new planet, storyline, and so forth, but System Era notes that “most of the new content (Storms, New Module, New Resources, etc.) are also coming to the base game, free to all players.” DLC owners can also invite non-DLC owners to their saves.
“Players who do not own the Glitchwalkers expansion can join a multiplayer game hosted by someone who does, allowing them to explore the new content and planet alongside the host,” the devs have clarified. “Players who do not own the expansion will not receive rewards exclusive to Glitchwalkers, but they can still participate in missions, experience the story, and explore. Dedicated server support and custom games will not be available at launch but are actively in development.”
