Tarisland’s new legendary weapon system is being roasted by players as grindy and predatory

Earning more powerful and more VFX-coated weapons is the name of the endgame goal in Tarisland, and with the arrival of Season One to the MMO came new legendary weapons, which leads us to an explainer from Tencent about the system because getting these things is almost as convoluted as its raid boss backstories.

The whole system revolves around a needed material known as the Ember of the Skyfire that’s necessary to put together these new weapons, which is farmed from elite mode versions of the Demon of Dark Flames and the Doom Lord dungeons. But don’t think you can simply roll for this material: Players have to win an auction within the encounter to get the item, and if it doesn’t sell, it will become publicly available in the world auction house.

If a player manages to get 10 of these Embers, they can form a Skyfire Rune and then use them to get their item. These weapons begin at item level 160 and can be powered up to 170 by consuming other weapons.

Unsurprisingly, this whole system has not gone over well with players, as reactions bemoan a perceived needless grind, call the mechanics predatory, and accuse Tencent of whaling. Tencent has opened a questionnaire about the system, so players who have thoughts are perhaps best served directing ire to that form.

In other Tarisland news, the MMORPG will be holding a Skyfire Ritual event on Wednesday, November 20th. Players will be tasked with advancing a server-wide progression bar by participating in a fire dragon blessing, offering prayers, or completing a challenge to obtain “Challenge/Universal Affix Coin/Pendant: Flame Variation,” whatever the hell that is.
