City of Heroes Homecoming offers a brief roadmap with two major updates planned for 2025

While City of Heroes Homecoming’s license from NCsoft was big news last January, regular readers will know that after the initial rush of players died down, the game actually quieted down too. We got only a few updates out of the Homecoming team throughout 2024; I count only two major releases, i27p7 and i28p1, with a handful of re-run events and minor updates. Of course, it’s hard to complain when everyone working and playing is doing so basically for free, so take our context here as wishing for more rather than demanding!

Either way, a new missive from the Homecoming team promises more content incoming – essentially a brief roadmap for 2025. Most notably:

  • The team is promising updates to all of the seasonal events, starting with the Spring Fling event in February.
  • i28p2 is due out in “early spring.”
  • And then i28p3 will launch in fall.

There are no hard details on what exactly is going into those updates, barring a few teaser images (expect lots of Crey, apparently) and the logical conclusion that the story will continue to play out through issue 28.

“While the main goal for the pages listed above will be to continue the overarching storyline, we also hope to release new powersets, costume pieces, base items, badges, and customization features that allow you to play your character’s story the way you want to,” the devs write.

The memo also shares some fan stats from the playerbase. For example, over half a million new characters were created last year, most popular being Brutes, Blasters, and Masterminds, with the epic archetypes being down at the bottom (no surprise there). Surely the team will be learning from the list of unpopular powersets to give them buffs, right? *Padme face* Right? *sighing in Sonic Res*

And finally, the letter sheds some light on the current structure of the City Council that administrates the Homecoming project. They’re hunting for a tools developer!
