It’s been something of a regular feeling for fans of the gaslamp survival sandbox Nightingale that development on the early access title is reeling back, but the latest developer video from Inflexion CEO Aaryn Flynn and art director Neil Thompson basically confirms as much, as most of the discussion for a video about the game was instead aimed to other projects the studio is working on.
While the pair are a bit mum on details, they did talk about “great and energizing” meetings with its owner Tencent and particularly talked up multiple “great projects” that Inflexion is working on that Flynn says multiple times are helping to keep the lights on and people employed at the studio.
“The Nightingale stuff has just been much slower while we focus on things that are really paying the bills and ensuring that people can have jobs,” Flynn says. “Had Nightingale been more successful, we wouldn’t be in that situation, and it’s something that Neil and I reflect on a lot. So it is very fortunate that we have these other projects to work on.”
Even with that admitted reality of life at Inflexion and what Flynn considers the state of the games industry, the video isn’t wholly devoid of Nightingale details: The two leads talk about how the survivalbox’s arrival to EGS as a free game injected new players, talked up a smaller patch due in the next two to three weeks that will primarily focus on balance changes and bug fixes, and confirmed that a path to a 1.0 release is being considered, though there are considerations being made to stay out of the way of larger releases in the survivalbox sub-genre. The video isn’t really bringing a lot of great news, but it is at least honest if a bit cagey at times.
