Did you miss the last time that Camelot Unchained had its technical sound designer Ken streaming what he does for the RvR MMO? Well, you’re in luck because this week brought yet another dev-centric livestream featuring Ken again to showcase some examples of his efforts and tools. And this time he actually plays sounds and music instead of reading a document about his tools!
As one might anticipate, this broadcast is pretty specialist as Ken talks about some of the instruments and soundscapes he utilizes to convey the aesthetic of the game’s Vikings, the importance of how sounds telegraph what’s happening, the tools and libraries he employs, and some of the steps he takes and thought processes he follows in order to create sound effects like a level up noise.
As livestreams from the game go, then, this one isn’t what one would call revelatory in light of the MMORPG’s plan to hit early access later this year or as game-specific as the stealth mechanics of the Veil, but for audiophiles what is here might be worth the attention.
