Take a good, long look at Escape from Tarkov gameplay

One-minute trailers can give you a tiny taste of a game, but they can never truly give a feel for the game or show how it actually plays. Luckily for Escape from Tarkov fans, Gamespot has nearly 15 minutes of seamless gameplay footage that lets you really experience the alpha action. With nothing but in-game sounds and the first-person view, you feel like you are there — except you can’t pull the trigger yourself! Watch the action unfold in the video below, then check out the gallery of new Factory location images that Battlestate games released.

Escape from Tarkov’s alpha test is coming in August

Watch out, everyone: The Russian invasion is coming this summer.

Escape from Tarkov announced this past weekend that it will be heading into alpha testing on August 4th. The gritty urban multiplayer shooter expects to build a solid foundation for the game by then, including the addition of several features that haven’t been revealed yet.

The team said that it didn’t want to introduce players to the game before it was ready: “Opening access to whatever we have now, ‘as is,’ in our opinion, does not serve any purpose. Alpha testing should not only polish the project and add content, but thoroughly balance and flesh out the details of game mechanics.”

Could we be seeing a new standard for what makes up an alpha test here?

Escape from Tarkov looks at the creation of a realistic game world

When players take on the role of a mercenary in Escape from Tarkov, they won’t be sprinting around a stylistically exaggerated world. On the contrary, the developers are taking pains to establish “hardcore realism” in the shooter’s fictional city.

In a new developer diary, the team discusses (and even shows) how it has been creating 3-D assets for the world and how it is giving that extra level of attention to detail to the structures, weapons, and objects that pull together to make up Tarkov.

Check out the second developer diary below. We want to notify you that while the video is in Russian, you can turn on closed captioning to read what the devs are discussing.

Betawatch: The Division enters beta this month at last (January 15, 2016)

It seems like The Division was going to forever be the title that didn’t quite make its way to an actual beta test, but that’s finally changing. After rumors that its beta was coming this month, it was confirmed that the tests will start right around the end of January… and stop very soon thereafter. So it’s more of the “stress test” sort of beta. There’s some new gameplay footage for those among you who can’t wait until the end of the month.

And now for my next trick, yes, it’s more stuff going on over the past week in the beta field!

Is there a list down there? Silly question, of course there’s a list. You know to let us know if we missed something, yes? Awesome!

Escape from Tarkov starts taking preorders

Gear up, mercenaries: Escape from Tarkov has started taking preorders for four different game packages, even though the title hasn’t gone into testing yet. The preorder packages range in cost from $45 to $140 and include bonus equipment, access to the game’s various testing stages (alpha and beta), and an early unlock of the game prior to launch.

Escape from Tarkov also posted a new FAQ to answer some of the burning questions from the community. In it, the team revealed that the alpha will commence in the first quarter of this year and explained how players could get into the testing program. The FAQ also addressed the consequences of bringing all of your preorder goodies into a fight, warning that players could lose these purchased items if they’re not careful:

Q: I wonder if the more expensive editions are worth it? What is the point of enhanced starting inventory if I can lose it all in the very first firefight?
A: Although it is possible to lose everything, but only if you take everything with you, without leaving anything in the stash, which is not physically possible.

We’ve also got an inventory and looting video for you after the break!

Check out Escape from Tarkov’s inventory and looting in a new preview video

17In order to perform the eponymous task in Escape from Tarkov, you’re going to need stuff. Guns, for example, guns are things. Bullets, too. Probably food, water, and a vintage collection of baseball broadcasts from radio shows of the 1950s. We’ve all got priorities. A new preview video shows off the process of gathering this stuff with the game’s inventory and looting system.

The game focuses heavily on having a semi-realistic setup for carrying items, taking damage, and exploring the mysterious city, so you can probably imagine that you don’t have limitless space to carry whatever. Similarly, space and size are considerations, as are the limitations of what you can see within a downed target’s backpack at any given moment. Check out the video down below to see just how you’ll scavenge to survive.
