The MMO industry moves along at the speed of information, and sometimes we’re deluged with so much news here at Massively Overpowered that some of it gets backlogged. That’s why there’s The MOP Up: a weekly compilation of smaller MMO stories and videos that you won’t want to miss. Seen any good MMO news? Hit us up through our tips line!

This week we’ll cheer on the launch of Age of Wushu’s mobile spin-off, listen to EVE Online’s new theme, get into some Overwatch cosplay, and more!

New Games and Testing

Patches and Updates

Events and Contests

  • World of Warships: Ranked Battles Season 3 is here and will continue through February 16. There are lots of prizes to be won, but we think that the devs were a little desperate to fill out that list by including “bragging rights.” [Thanks to ThatLanteshGuy for the tip!]

Odds and Ends

Videos and Music

Age of Wushu Dynasty, a mobile spin-off of the martial arts sandbox, launched this past week on iOS and Android. The game is a stripped-down version of the MMO, with four classes and more of a hack-and-slash combat system. It’s also gotten pretty decent reviews. Check out its launch trailer:

EVE Online has a new theme, “In the Magnificent Realm,” and you can listen to it and download it for free!

Steparu has been playing “way too much” of Monster Hunter Online and has the avalanche of videos to show for it. Here are a handpicked couple to share:

HeroWarz is an action RPG that now has its own anime trailer to go along with that awesome “z” at the end of its name. Is it enough to draw you in?

Ah, I wish we had monster hunter online…..then I realize someone will do some weird free 2 play nonsense on its transition to the English market, like limiting each player to only 10 Megapotions per day, unless you drop 20 dollars for 200 of them. That or, god forbid, lock boxes with monster parts.

I got tired of Age of Wushu Dynasty after about two days. Stamina recharges are too long and free refills too few and small for more than a run or three. Even stages individually have a limit of 5 times there they’ll let you run them, so we have a game that encourages grinding for upgrade materials but puts up multiple barriers to allowing you to do that.
I made it to level 20, right where people say the level grind actually kicks in and the game starts not so subtly nudging you to participate in PvP-related activities among a bunch of other things that have a limit of number of times per day you can run them.
Oh, there are open areas where you can grind dummy mobs… For, like, 3 experience each. Yeah, no thanks.

MorpayneRADIO tried it on iPad few days ago. It’s 100% p2w with everything you can expect from f2p mobile mmo. There are few servers (NA, EU, Asia) and I had no ping problems playing on EU. Combat is kinda ok, story is not bad, graphics is mediocre but character progression is very p2w. Overall – not worth.

Will mobile Wushu also be heavily p2w and ping dependent?

I’m no longer interested in games that don’t have VIP 1-12.
