Webzen is removing Mu Origin from service in the Netherlands over loot boxes

The ultimate goal of most legislation introduced vis-a-vis loot boxes generally seems aimed at making the companies behind these games change the mechanics of the aforementioned boxes. However, Webzen has reacted to new laws in the Netherlands with a more efficient stance. Mu Origin will no longer be available in the country as of June 20th, removed from both the Google Play store and the iOS stores in the region. The game will remain available for play elsewhere.

There’s no mention of any compensation for players who had spent money on the title in the past or whether refunds will be offered, although the game’s services will remain available in other countries with (presumably) no changes. Our condolences to Dutch players unable to enjoy the title any longer.

MU Origin patch 2.4 adds new corps and accompanying wars between them

Any MU Origin players who want to be stronger are going to need to start fighting other players to do so. But not in small-scale skirmishes, no. The latest update for the game adds in the new corps mechanic, allowing four guilds to combine themselves into one mega-guild known as a corps. And the four best corps will get to compete in weekly corps wars for dominance of various spots of land, which is probably very exciting for those stretches of land. They get to be very important for a bit.

This is also exciting for players, as leveling up through this system allows access to the new Hallow benefits collected through corps wars or territory collection. Collect Hallow, strengthen your character, make use of new tricks like preventing your opponents from using their special stats. You can play the update now on your mobile device of choice, and you can get a feel for what’s involved by checking out the trailer just below.

Mobile MMO roundup: Pokemon Go, Like A Boss, Arena of Valor, Wargaming, Mu Origin, and mobile demographics

Welcome back to another mobile MMO roundup, maybe possibly giving you something fun to do on your phones while you’re stuck at various holiday events this season!

Players are either happy or grumpy with Pokemon Go, as apparently the game is scheduling random raids (which are hard enough to come by generally) for Christmas day. Because it needs to be said again: This is literally the worst raiding system in any MMO ever and I can’t believe there isn’t more rage.

Like A Boss isn’t an MMORPG, but like Little Healer, it does mock MMORPGs with a Dungeon Keeper twist, and it’s available on mobile now. “Now it’s time to become the Boss in the role-playing fantasy world you know from MMOs, but this time it’s your territory that is being invaded, your riches, and your minions that are being ransacked!”

MU Legend kicks off second CBT while MU Origin opens a PvP server arena

Webzen’s been quite busy building its expanded MU universe up in its bedroom while its mom keeps calling it down to dinner. “Not now, Mom, I’ve got a beta test to roll out!” floats down the stairs.

Indeed, the second closed beta test for MU Online’s sequel, MU Legend, revved up today. The CBT will run from February 21st through the 28th and includes several new localization languages, including French, German, Brazilian-Portuguese, Spanish, and Polish. Over 200,000 players pre-registered to be part of the first closed beta, and any of those that participate in CBT2 will find that their character data has not been wiped.

Meanwhile, Webzen’s mobile spin-off, MU Origin, is getting busy with its 1.6 update. This patch opens up a PvP server arena, expands the journal, introduces the Guardian Soul, and adds more character progression with Muren’s Book and a specialty system. Check out trailers for both after the break!

Mu Origin bonds players together with the companion system

Isn’t playing an MMO more enriching when you’re teamed up with someone else? Mu Origin thinks so, which is why it has added a new companion system with its most recent patch.

From the looks of it, the companion system lets two players bond via rings that can be upgraded from their time together. There are also companion dungeons and a special feast meant to be consumed by the very best of friends.

Other parts of the patch upgrade the wings system (fly my pretties!) and allow players to transmute their weapons to tier 11. To promote the patch, Webzen is giving out a bundle of goodies that includes a gold spark, epic pet tickets, rainbow feathers, condor’s flames, and condor’s feathers. You can make one heck of a pillow with all of that!
