EVE Online’s Galatea update begins with a royal assassination

This isn’t just a patch; it’s a political upheaval.

EVE Online pushed out its Galatea release today and with it a major event that’s rocking the galaxy. It appears that the Amarr Empress has been assassinated by the Drifters, which means that players now can be drafted by would-be successors to fight on their behalf. By the time that EVE Fanfest rolls around next year, a new leader will be chosen for the Amarr Empire.

Galatea delivers several other welcome features for the game, including more tweaks to the Sovereignty system, camera improvements for ship killshots, and a revamp of the Gallente Dominix battleship.

Oskiee PurpleCopper Today I learnt that good and odious puss seeping from open wounds of incompetent management and shitbrained authors are synonyms.

First Emperor Hengist Duval, now Empress Jamyl Sarum. It’s a bad month to be emperor in a space game…

The Empress must have terrible ISK efficiency.

I find eves story to be unique among sci fi because it’s so realistic. A religious society rises to become the most powerful, it never specifies Christianity or Islam but the art style seems very pseudo catholic.
The gallente, a society descended from the French ships cut off from the Milky Way, who strongly believe in democracy and freedom.
Caldari, a civilization where the military industrial complex has completley taken over. Not necessarily evil, but when corporations rule society it’s not exactly great.
Then my personal favorite, the Minmitar. I find them the most interesting because the story suggest that after humanity was cut off from the Milky Way and stranded, people of color were once again subjegated and placed into slavery, namely by the religious Amarr. Minmitar even have darker skin tones as a general rule, from black to different shades of tan.
As a person of color myself I immediately chose to fight for what I recognized as “my” people.

The story, lore, and books are my favorite part of the game. The books are what inspired me to start playing. I wish the would publish more novels.

Huxys The Dominix is my main ship for level 4 and 5 missions–been using it for the last 9 years. Can’t wait to log in today and take it out.

PurpleCopper I definitely do. The story and lore behind EVE is quite good.

PurpleCopper Some of us do. Especially right now as the game has some pretty good story telling going on.

I’m curious as to how you read about the death of Empress Jamyl Sarum I in the patch notes.  Also, that happened on Friday and Galatea didn’t launch until today.

Anything else I can nitpick for you?

Haven’t played EVE in years, but I still love the Domi… the redesign is nice, looks a little more leand and aggressive, though I’ll miss my old space potato! (If I ever play again…)
