Guild Wars 2 teases its legendary Orrian hammer, retailers fiddle with release dates

There’s a lot of excitement, confusion, and uncertainty regarding Guild Wars 2’s immediate future, but it’s looking like the devs are going to keep players on their toes in the best of ways. Now that it looks like the end of Season 3 will come with a new Orrian zone, what about a giant smashy hammer to go along with it?

On Twitter, the devs teased an upcoming legendary hammer, saying that players could “reclaim your own piece of Orr to take into battle.” The video shows a character from behind, walking while toting a giant spanner-like weapon.

So what’s past that? The expansion, hopefully. Everyone’s getting in on the giant office pool, guessing when xpack will drop and what it will contain — even retailers. It looks like some sort of reveal or preorder situation might happen in the next week, with some retailers posting (and removing) release dates and counting down to four days from now. It should be stated that this is all just rumors and guesswork right now until confirmed, but even so… does September 30th sound like a good time for a launch to you?

They mentioned that the break between this last LS episode and the expansion will be a little longer than the standard 3 month break between LS episodes. So a reasonable guess will be 4 months from now. So the end of November, beginning of December would be my guess.

Let’s shoot for the first week in October for the expansion, so it can fall near my birthday ;)

If they actually DO something tangible with WvW I may buy back in and jump on the “hype train”. The lip service thus far just has me shaking my head and holding onto my wallet :/

Unless there are some unforetold and dramatic changes done to optimize the engine, WvW is going to change much. It’s always the last game mode to be addressed and you get the feeling Anet would rather see it quietly pass away.

But here’s to hoping!

>and you get the feeling Anet would rather see it quietly pass away.

Is that why they recently updated rewards from WvW (and even more recently balanced them) and made it so damn popular I needed to queue for hours and hours to get in?

Yeah because the PvE’ers wanted the rewards. I’m on Jade Quarry (Tier 1) and the rush of new players left as soon as they figured out it would take months to finish the backpiece. Reset night seems to be the only major queue time. The rest of the week is 1-3mins queues if any at all.

Still queues every night on both EU servers I play on.
Not as bad as right after the changes but still MUCH longer than before.

Anyway the point was that if Arenanet wanted it to “quietly pass away”, they wouldn’t be balancing rewards on it and make it extremely popular to PvErs who might actually like it and stay on to become PvPers.

Maybe now that they see how many people are willing to play WvW we’ll get some interesting changes next expansion.

September 30 is Yom Kippur, and I have to set a good example for my children, so for purely selfish reasons I sincerely hope that’s not the day.

It is also a Saturday, so I doubt they release it then. Maybe the 29th (wasn’t HoT on a Friday?) but I think sometime in October is more likely.

You can set a good example by staying home with your kids! Playing games. So you’re around in case they need anything. And teach them to value new experiences as they happen, before other people post spoilers and ruin it all.

It’s just a placeholder and buecher.de isn’t that great either. I guess we can assume something around this date.
