Betawatch: TERA does the beta warp again (March 16, 2017)
The first round of open beta testing for TERA on consoles went well. (According to the developers, at least.) What can be done to extend that warm fuzzy feeling? Why, doing it all over again, obviously. Although you won’t be allowed into this particular second round if you weren’t in the first round, we’re sorry to say. It’s standing room only.
Elsewhere in the beta universe… war was beginning.
- For example, there’s the war between The Repopulation and its backend deployment tools, which have caused a delay in the game’s next update. We have seen the enemy, and it is our own programming.
- Another war raging now is the war between Forsaken Legend and its expected downgrade from an MMO, which appears to have been reversed! Hey, we didn’t say all of these were wars that were being lost.
- The voxel sandbox PixARK is fighting a war against… not being in early access? Look, it’s open for early access on March 27th, sometimes these things don’t flow nicely.
- Last but not least, Pantheon: Rise of the Fallen is waging a war on your ability to not look like a mismatched dork when you play by splitting up armor sets pretty aggressively. That seems like a pretty easy war to win, but you never know.
You know what? We’re dropping the war thing to just let you know that there’s a list of games in testing below and you can let us know if we missed one or two important phase changes. Sometimes that happens when we’re in the trenches. The war against the onrushing tide of titles is never-ending.
As always, we consider an MMO to be in open testing if it features free, public signups and will server wipe prior to launch. An MMO is marked in closed testing if it’s running a private test phase that cannot freely be accessed by the general public; it’s usually under NDA as well. Early access and crowdfunded MMOs whose tests we deem legitimate will be included. So-called “open beta” soft-launch MMOs with cash shops, no sign of launch in the west, or limited interest for our readers will not be listed; we also do not list expansions, with occasional exceptions.
