RIFT is planning a new calling for 2015

As RIFT hits its fourth anniversary this week, the team is eager to let you in on an exciting tidbit or two about what’s coming this year. The biggest reveal? Trion is hard at work creating a new calling (archetype) for the game to go along with its current roster of Mage, Cleric, Warrior, and Rogue.

And no, we don’t know what it is yet.

In an attempt to “over-deliver” to fans, the team has several more cards up its sleeve. These include April’s Echoes of Madness update, more raids, the return to Hammerknell, and the release of Planetouched Wilds.

Game Director Chris Junior thinks that 2015 will be a great year for the game: “This is all part of our larger strategy: making sure that you have a chance to experience the very best that RIFT has to offer while at the same time working on creating new challenges and encounters that everyone will grow to love, too.”

ShaneScott You mean EQ druid?  Lol… source: I was a half elf druid in EQ.  All of the skills you mentioned above belong to druid.  ;)  Which would be really cool!

Maybe a shapeshifter type.
Spirit of Wolf-increased run speed self and others
Abilities to teleport self and others.
Armor: skin like wood, scale
Kinda like the old EQ Paladin

ZenDadaist Scarecrowe I’d still be playing if the 40’s weren’t such a slogfest.  And it is mostly because the IA’s at that level are empty so you have to keep playing the newb areas so you can’t double tap xp by completing kill quests while on the IA quests.

Flimflamberge Scale?  Studded leather? Obsidian, wood or other naturally occurring substance?

Scarecrowe ZenDadaist That’s precisely where I’m at now. After the new shiny of the Nightmare Tide zones and quests wore off, the horrendous grind kicked in and turned me off. I only log in now when I’m needed to make the numbers up for a guild run of something. Not even logging in daily for the free artifact.

On the bright side if the new calling is nothing but a cash-shop fest and dilutes the loot tables even further, I won’t be even vaguely interested in it and I can keep giving my time to games that I’m actually enjoying o/

Since the previous souls have all been cash-shop based, I’m sure the new calling will be as well.  And I agree that they don’t need to add new a new calling. I dread going back through vanilla content. SL was fine but NT was so tedious I was relieved and quit when I capped.

Well, each of the existing ones has a unique armour type, so I assume this will be the same. The question is, what? With cloth, leather, mail and plate already covered, all I can think of is power armour, kevlar, or… feathers?
I’ll approve of any of those.

RooWoods Yeah I also was playing PvP all the way till Nightmare Tide. (Ok I lied, quit slightly before but that’s because I wanted to see ArcheAge in its early days). I will remember Storm Legion as RIFTs high point. The systems were well made, everything worked and was reasonably balanced. Stat differences for PvP were significant enough to have an incentive for getting the next gear set, yet small enough to prevent capped players facerolling beginners.
People often say the latter isn’t true, but I started PvP like one year into Storm Legion, so I played against myrmidons in my blue quest gear. Yet I always felt like my contribution to the PvP matches mattered and skilled play could often overcome the raw stat difference.

But yeah, after Nightmare Tide I went back and played PvP again, but never really got enjoyment out of it anymore. The reasons:

1) they highly incentivized doing warfronts for PvE players, meaning a lot of players who both were bad at PvP and didn’t care about PvP were now starting to play it to get a few more marks to buy gear
2) The carefully achieved Storm Legion balance of HP, damage and heal values was gone. This is imo the biggest shame… it’s rare for an MMO to feel anything close to balanced in PvP. Throwing that out of the window by redoing the PvP mechanics while it wasn’t needed at all is like… ugh… I have no words for it.

I hope that a future patch or expansion will change things and bring the fun back, but I highly doubt it. I think Storm Legion will remain my favourite RIFT era.
