ArcheAge

There’s lots going on in the world of ArcheAge this week, and most of it is summarized in a Trion website update focused on the upcoming Dread Prophecies update. For starters, there’s an event happening this weekend that grants bonus labor points. Next weekend will feature a trade pack turn-in contest with loyalty point rewards and various prizes for top finishers.

There’s also a livestream happening today that’s focusing on Dread Prophecies’ ship customization, obsidian gear, the new achievement system, and more.

keysmachine Infraction trion support staff have been caught doing that as well. Each time it is glossed over as being a “miscommunication” or an “accident”. No one has ever been publicly reprimanded and coincidentally, one of the rules on the trion world forums is that “calling for the punishment of a staff member is an actionable offense” so voicing legitimate concerns on such issues results in a forum ban.
On topic: the ship customization system is a giant p2win gold sink. The default ships are essentially losing speed and utility due to the base stats of everything being changed, and you are forced into a situtation where you have to spend time and money just to get your ship back to its original prenerfed state. The possibility of making overall betters ships does exist, but it’s extremely costly.

Furthermore, the customization isn’t nearly as indepth as implied. It’s convoluted by multiple, long-named tiers which can be simplified into 3 very obvious tiers: :basic (cheap), slight upgrade (not cheap) and pay2win (credit card open). If you hated the regrade system, you are going to hate ship customization, because after spending thousands of gold making the new ship parts, you then have to regrade them with destruction-failure rates starting at green tier.

Of course, on the test server they have given everyone hundreds of thousands of gold worth of materials and scrolls, so you can “test” this system out, but I’m afraid what it’s really doing is giving people the false impression that regrading is going to be some how easier/less grindy which isn’t the case. When you have to actually go out and earn/farm these mats, the grind becomes apparent.

Infraction You think that’s bad? how about Eve Online giving their guildies  blue prints that you can’t even get in the game normally.

that’s literally game breaking.

Some of this stuff sounds amaaazing. I don’t think I am mentally ready to return to Archeage, but when I do I look forward to learning the ship customizations in and out. More sea content, less bland new zones with phallic mushrooms!

Its been a couple weeks so it was time for new Archeage drama.

Apparantly the producer was caught showing his guildies some insight into the upcoming patch. Nothing like giving your guild the inside information so they can time markets right to make some quick cash on day one of the patch.

This was the only aspect I was really looking forward to in ArcheAge.  The ship customization is pretty great and overhauled the whole system of how the ship slots and what not were designed.  No more alchemists to repair boats, you use vendor bought materials to repair ships and parts of the ship as well (like destroyed cannons, harpoons, sails, etc).
So cool, such a shame.
