SWTOR clarifies Knights of the Fallen Empire’s instant level 60 character

Among the participants in the SWTOR: Knights of the Fallen Empire announcement parade was one fellow bellowing out, “You’ll be able to create a level 60 character!” But there was so much noise and pomp in that procession that it might have been easy to overlook this important feature.

Players curious about what the instant level 60 character will entail received some — but not complete — clarification on the forums by BioWare CM Eric Musco: “As a subscriber, when you get Fallen Empire you will receive one free level 60 character. This character must be a new character, you cannot ‘boost’ an existing character up to 60. Beyond that first one which is included free with KotFE, you can purchase additional level 60 characters through the cartel market at any time.”

Musco went on to say that the team expects (but does not promise) that the maximum character limit will increase by two to accommodate the change. He also mentioned that more details about how the instant 60 would plug into the game and how companions and crew skills will be affected are forthcoming. You’re also going to have to sit on any questions about operations until the team addresses the topic in a future post.

Also pertaining to the expansion, Musco confirmed that the two playable factions will remain separate (i.e., no cross-faction team-ups) while the new faction will be purely NPC-driven.

Tamanous Estranged you dont need to skip the story by buying a 60. you can start with the old storyline if you choose. youll just move through the boring bits faster and get to the next story point

I liked the spellslinger from wildstar more, but gunslinger is fun also.

Ditto. I actually thought the faction wall would come down, seeing as how both sides just got thier asses handed to them.

melissamcdon not sure if you’ve played SWTOR before, but it’s not really like that. Weapons are almost all class specific. A trooper gets a rather powerful heavy cannon and a blaster rifle. They are a ton of fun to play, though. ;)

Dunno what to think of all this. It’s a story driven game, and you can buy a level 60 character. For what? You miss 90% of the story by skipping right to the end. Who does that? If it were a book, you’d slap your grandma for skipping to the end of a book. In a video game, sure, if there were some amazing end game content.. is there really going to be months (plural)  worth of content in SWTOR post-level 60?
I love SWTOR – just not sure I see the point, and hope this all gets clarified a bit soon.
Just seems like there’s a whole mess of Star Wars related stuff dropping in November in preparation for the movie. That’s great and all, but is it really necessary? Isn’t the movie going to be the biggest thing since the discovery of the New World? And how is Bioware going to poof this whole ginormous expansion out of whole cloth in 4 months?
I hope for the best, and prepare for the…

No cross faction? Whats the point? I have been floating on this huge SW high at first hearing about this expansion. I rushed out and updated my game and have been running quests in the first time in a year but now I feel like someone popped my balloon. WTF happened to the Bioware of my youth? I just dropped from excitement level 11 to a 3… :( The idea that the factions are completely gone, maybe those that were in the republic could side and play alongside those from the empire, now that’s a game changer, that’s exciting and shows that this living world is not just a WoW clone with a Star Wars skin. Sigh… Should have known better than to think a company would try something really different now it just sounds like a Cataclysm expansion clone added to a WoW clone.

Esivo Actually, they said it’s not a boost.

You get to create a one new level 60 character for free. It doesn’t boost existing characters up to sixty if they’re not already there.

Cheers,
