Paragon Chat sees 200 concurrent users at peak

You made it sing, all right.

Paragon Chat is not the City of Heroes revival that everyone wants, obviously, but it is a chance to walk around, chat, and enjoy the environment and the costumes within the game client. A recent tweet from the people at Titan Network responsible for the chat service reveals that the sort-of-game has seen 788 accounts connect to the service, with a peak concurrency around 200 people.

If you want to step back into Paragon City in some capacity, a detailed guide is available on the Paragon Wiki, which also provides a comprehensive overview of what is and is not available within the chat service. You can also jump down below to see the chat client in action in a video from Somewhat Eclectic.

if you can freely travel between all the contiguous zones, then this actually covers %95 of what i wanted from the game.  8)

To all the heroes (and villains) still trying to decide whether to try this, let me just observe that City of Heroes was special because of the community, not just the fantastic costumes and the casual friendly environment. I’ve tried scads of MMOs before and since. Nothing else compared.

That community is alive and well on Paragon Chat. The Cape Radio has already broadcast from Pocket D. Every time someone announced that they just got back in, and they’re a bit misty eyed – there’s a chorus of “welcome home!”

It is not the *game* we all knew and loved, no. But it is the WORLD we loved so much, and the people we knew are there. It is very likely to bring tears to your eyes… but you are among friends and family who UNDERSTAND that, and share the bittersweet longing.

I’ll make a prediction, too. I think Paragon Chat is going to have a lot more impact than you would think a glorified chat client might. I’ve said for years that the entire MMO industry stopped making worlds and is content to make games now. The folks at Titan are pushing back against that trend, and just as important empowering OTHER people to push back, too. Keep watching, I’d say it will be quite a ride.

I’ve been playing since launch night. It is indeed a font of conflicting feelings. On the one hand… we can’t kill skulz. all the great story lines and missions are gone for now. On the other hand, Paragon City was a real place, and we all played it for the community, not for the random thrashing of baddies. Even now, three years later there is still strong love for this game. compare that to so many that have come and gone and it becomes clear that unlike Matrix Online, or Auto Assault, or most of the other dead and gone MMOs out there (excepting a few like star wars galaxies) And so having the ability to log in and see old familiar faces and places is fabulous.

Now, two days later, my stomach still flutters a bit hitting the login screen. I long to slay skulls and circle of thorns and reakshow and praetoreans… but I come for the people.

Besides, how many other places on the internet come with a 3d chat client with millions of costume combinations of either gender for free? the only thing itlacks is the ability to flash your sword or flambe a fence post with your powers.

Cyclone Jack MChrome Right now not EVERY costume piece is available (in fact, the first thing you see when you go to download PC is that it’s 0.965, a beta release) but I’d say about 90% of costumes are available, which is still head and caped shoulders above any other MMO out there, (and was when the game was still online)
hopefully the NPC costume elements and the last remaining locked veteran and +50 costume components  will be available soonish.

Celestial I felt it as soon as I logged in, so I completely empathize. :)

Just jumped on — totally works, and gave me such a conflicted feeling of joy and sadness. I’m glad I spent the last couple days of uptime saving out all my costumes and such, so rebuilding my faves (along with my namesake) will be a snap. Looking forward to connecting with old friends.

I don’t know my heart could take this in person. Even just watching that video got me a bit on the misty side.
….I probably am going to do this to myself anyway. Damn me.

I miss the days of sweeping up the entire map of Perez Park and letting folks pound away the massive mob.  Im happy too that the chat has the old music in it.  I just need to go pay my respects there I guess.
