Neverwinter nerfs high-level mobs, grants increased XP

Neverwinter is making some changes to the leveling curve between 60 and 70. A dev blog released this week says that the team has removed the 50 percent HP buff that was previously found on level 61 to 70 mobs. A slight difficulty increase was desired, Perfect World says, but those numbers were “definitely too high.”

Mob damage has also been reduced, and players will now gain increased XP for missions in the Elemental Evil zones, which should speed you on your way to 70. These changes are coming “soon” to PC and in the next update on Xbox One.

I’ve come back for the first time since launch.  The game is a fun playthrough, but beyond the fun combat there isn’t much to the game.  Strongholds is a neat idea, but overall this isn’t a very good game.

Craywulf teppic I’m talking about max level mobs one shotting max level players with reasonably good gear. It was ridiculous and made the game unplayable for some classes.

I think the problem with 60-70 was that, in the first place, it wasn’t designed to be accomplished the usual, 1-60 way. i.e. through mobs + quest xp. Instead, it was a bizarre combination of chasing timed events around and doing endless repeatables. I’m a HUGE fan of NW, and 60-70 felt like a total mis-step to me. My suspicion is that there was a time pressure there from WoTC, because now that NW is linked right in to the official D&D ongoing living story, the development time for the modules has been quite compressed. So, top marks to Shicoff for rectifying in a timely manner!

Time to fire things back up? I left because i got very tired of being one-shotted by mini-boss adds on quests i had to repeat 5+ times before i could leave the zone.

Senjin92 They have been promising this since the failure of mod 6 with the player base. It was god awful and whoever thought it was a good idea should be demoted at the least. The community hated it and was avoiding the content.

teppic Max level mobs should only be able to one-shot first level players with standard gear. At least that’s my opinion.

I wonder if these changes will be enough to help people solo quest again? The Lvl 70 mobs were pretty brutal even with decent GS. It doesn’t help in my experience that only the GF and the OP could really solo after reaching Lvl 70.

In my mind if you’re going have any vertical leveling, then the percentage of power and defense should never be more than 5% between the first level and max level. This way it doesn’t create a massive power creep when a high level character goes trotting through a low level zone and one-shots everything while getting hit like a mosquito bite.

Keeping the power/defense curve to smaller scale allows for easier balancing mobs and gear.

Who thought that having trash mobs being able to one shot people in reasonably good gear was a good idea. Looks like they’re fixing this for the console mod 6 launch.
