Bless’ action combat is currently ‘a bit wonky’

Inquiring minds want to know if Korean fantasy import Bless is an actual action MMO or the usual tab-targeting mishmash with a twist.

Steparu has answers based on his playtime in the game’s final beta test. “Monsters are locked on to you, so even if you dodge a frontal attack, they will 360 degree spin and hit your character,” he writes. You can still dodge attacks, apparently, but Steparu describes the process as “a bit wonky” and he says that lag may be a factor since he’s connecting to an overseas server.

His post also features a couple of gameplay videos which you can view after the break.

I’m interested to try it out but not like it matters. Someone will inevitably find a way to fuck it up to a point that will make me walk away just like the other open games that had promise.
The pattern hasn’t been broken yet.

The attacks in Blade and Soul home in on the enemy that you have target locked. That’s pretty much tab targeting. Some of them can spread past the target but you pretty much have to lock on to whatever you’re fighting.  Combo, grappling, distance based condition attacks and blocking give it some complexity but it’s still using a tab target system in the end.

In a lobbby game like Vindicutus, Dragon’s Nest you hit what in you swing animation, that falls more in line with an action game.

Camera is too close, it not giving enough room to see any creatures that might come up from behind.

I played it for maybe an hour last night. Really wasn’t feeling it. It switches from day to night in literally a split second. The world turns bright blue when you phase into another part of the map. I ran for 15 seconds away from the town i spawned in and smashed into a giant, random invisible wall even though there was a field/mountains right on the other side that easily could have made a natural barrier.
I plan on doing a video most likely next week on it, hopefully i’ll find some parts in it that aren’t so bad by then lol
