Gaming industry reports identify leading studios and online trends

Details strewn within a trio of industry reports offer clues as to the health and direction of online gaming in 2015.

First up is a report from Research and Markets, which says that digital distribution is on the rise and will continue to be for the future. It identified “key and prominent vendors” in the industry, which included MMO studios and publishers such as Activision Blizzard, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Warner Bros., NCsoft, Nexon, and Square-Enix.

A look at the global gaming market showed that mobile and online games are on the rise worldwide, with free-to-play becoming the dominant model. Subscription revenues are down in North America, online gaming growth has slowed in the UK, and Russia is ablaze with social gaming.

E-sports is the central focus of the last report, as analysts say that this market is experiencing “explosive growth” and might well become a $1 billion industry.

Am I missing something here? Why Steam and GoG are not listed as “key vendors”? What they do (mainly Steam) is a huge factor in distribution digitalization imo.

Meh. Mobile is a joke. It’s dominated by clones of clones. They literally do the same thing. It’s easy to exploit by people like me. Play the games without spending a penny and then move on to a clone once the paywall becomes obvious. When Mobile crashes it’s going to crash hard. They are way too in your face about wanting to milk you. Mobile will never get as big here as it is in Asia because in NA we aren’t suckers for Free to Play models where they shuffle servers constantly in the hopes that you will spend more money to be at the top of some leaderboard that simply doesn’t matter. These mobile games are the biggest scams going. They are all about fast money.

Why focus on quality or creativity when you can just trend jump like a buckle bunny?

ZenDadaist  Lol.  I’m thinking of getting into that business.  Several thousands of dollars for a report and without an inkling of the data used, how it was gathered and who did the analysis and the methods used?

Holy hell, sign me to create a report like that and I’ll only charge just a couple of hundred dollars less. Lol.  Hey, and for a few hundred more I will make sure my report tells you exactly what you want to hear.

Guys, it doesn’t matter how obvious you think a conclusion is, your anecdotes are worthless.
Reminds me of how every other scientific study gets those “lol no shit, science to the rescue” responses. Mildly aggravating, to say the least.

I’m kinda interested in reading the whole report to be honest. But not for the price they’re asking! I want to get at the data they’re using to see how they’ve come to their conclusions
