Looking to get your ‘mech on with your favorite digital gaming platform? If you’re a Steam user, then rejoice, for MechWarrior Online is now available for free through it as of yesterday.

Piranha Games President Russ Bullock says that this is just the start of MechWarrior Online’s rise to prominence: “We’re entering a new phase of our development of MechWarrior with this latest update, and we’re excited to begin engaging our loyal fan base in new ways as we head into the next year.”

The Steam launch coincides with the release of MWO’s new faction play system. To date, MechWarrior Online has racked up 19 maps, 350 mechs, and over 10 million matches played. You can watch the Steam launch video after the break.

DasBenty Can’t say that surprises me. I started this game out with a K/D of ~0.6. It took a while until I hit a positive ratio.

BalsBigBrother Lol. Wait with investing your MC until you delved a bit deeper into the game again. Recommendable purchases are: mech bays, heroes, mastery bundles and perhaps premium time if you play the game more than casually.

Mastery packs are a brilliant deal, giving you 3 variants of a mech so you’re able to level it up to mastery. 1 of these mechs is a hero(Cbill income bonus of 30%), 1 is a champion(+30% exp) and 1 is a standard variant. It also comes with the mechbays needed for the 3 mechs and 30 days premium time. Mastery packs are probably the best thing to buy as soon as you decided which type of mech you like most.

I’d spend time in most of the trial chassis before that, though, so you can experiences the differences between weight classes and individual mechs.

Here is the video of Russ Bullock’s “speech”(it really was more a string of announcement videos) from their Steam Launch party: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v3xR_Ugat1w

It might not be that telling for someone who isn’t into the game but it shows the game is constantly improving and being worked on.

Summary: New beta phase, the third now, of Community Warfare(twice as big as the to former beta phases), Mech Decals and the announcement of the World Championship, starting with regional qualifiers.

Tezencatli Damonvile and thouse packs sold out, so there was obviously a market for them.  So they called the market right…

theeknighthood Tezencatli Damonvile Oh is that what everyone is mad about? Like really it’s just a skin. I don’t see how other people buying it, somehow makes the game worse for anyone else.

Tezencatli Damonvile I don’t recall WoT having $500 tanks with gold skins though

DasBenty lol. Yeah, there is a propensity for that happening a lot MWO. There’s a couple of facets of the game you have to pick up along the way to reduce the chances of that happening.

Although you might want to finish the tutorial. You get 2.5 million C-bills for finishing it. Bring you closer to getting your first mech.

Even in beta you could make extremely fast mechs that could speed across the entire map in no time.  You just have to use the right type with the right setup.

captainzor Yes it is there.  It is one of the worst modes I have ever seen in a MW game.
