The Stream Team: Tearing through MechWarrior Online’s tutorial

The last time MassivelyOP’s MJ tried out MechWarrior Online, she was thrown into the thick of battle before she could get familiar with piloting a mech. But with the cool new things coming to the game, she’s eager to jump in and give it another spin. Luckily for her, there’s a new tutorial to help her get the hang of the controls this time around. Tune in live at 8:00 p.m. to see if MJ can make it out of the tutorial alive!

MJ Guthrie Koshelkin Nah, you didn’t. What should you expect anyway? There’s some trial and error involved and alot of lacking training. I did search the forums for good beginner tutorials but most were more involved than they probably realized they were. I look forward to it. I love the game, and it’s among my main multiplayer games atm.

RicharddeLeonIII They are actually working on AI right now. So they may be brining pve into the game. How they implement it though I have no idea. Also rumors of a stand alone campaign in the future. similar to the MechWarrior games.

Just came back to this game recently. Loving every minute. Finding a unit and playing with friends as a team is key to success! Makes it more fun as well. If your a new player dropping into a pug solo you may have fun or the worst time ever lol.  Community Warfare is where the competitive fun is at though, and where I spend most of my time.

Koshelkin No way!  I am going to do more. I don’t think I did too badly for just an hour of playing though.

Despite the total lack of PVE, I really like this game if only because it reflects the tabletop version quite well especially in mech construction.  But as usual I couldnt hit the broadside of a barn so i usually get killed quick in the game >.<

I missed it, the recording was fun to watch, though. You really need to get a hang of movement and weapongroups first, so spending time in the academy is a good idea. The Catapult is a comparatively bad mech to make your first match in. Try a medium as soon as you got the hang of how to shoot targets during movement and using the fire groups independently, depending on your relative range to your enemy.
Basic stuff: you need to keep mind all the time where your legs and torso are facing, which weapon group holds which weapons and what their optimal range is. Shoot target dummies during movement in the academy and try out some of the mechs which are available there. There’s several mechs you can approach and switch to. Try them to get a hang of how different mechs and weight classes feel as well as getting to know the different weapon systems.
It’s alot to digest for a beginner but, well imo, it pays off in the end.

Maybe this was MJ’s last MWO stream, though, hoot.
