Istaria celebrates its 12th anniversary with a patch

Istaria — the MMO that will forever be linked to its former title of Horizons with any mention of it, making one wonder why the name change was needed — just blew out the candles on its 12th birthday cake. Believe it or not, this game has been chugging along since 2003!

So what did Istaria and its community wish for on this occasion? Apparently, a spiffy anniversary patch! This week’s update isn’t huge, but considering that this is one of those games that gets a patch once every six months or so, it’s something to celebrate.

The anniversary patch introduced new combat pets, brought back the winter festival, and added more travel scrolls. There’s also a large assortment of streamlining, bug fixes, and small features (such as allowing players to preview what grow-up dragons will look like).

Always wonderful to see Istaria news covered. I haven’t played in a few years, but happy they are celebrating 12 years!

I’m secretly jealous of those players who have found their “home”.
I’ve played a few games long term, but nothing on the scale of years. I wish I had a single game that I knew everything about and knew the entire community. That would be a really cool place to log into daily for a long time.
Except, MMOs seem to change all the time. So when I’m playing a game I like and it changes to a direction I disagree with, I pull out the tent stakes and look for a new home. And so the cycle continues.
So when I see articles like these, I wish I liked a game continuously for a long time, like these players.

Damonvile If a game can trigger my imagination and gives me a setting and the basics to create characters that can feel like something I made instead of one of 5 templates, then I put up with all sorts of shortcomings, whether graphical, quest quality, or grind nature of the end-game.  Once my imagination gets going then I can happily waste dozens if not hundreds of hours, often not “advancing” far in levels, but having lots of fun nevertheless.

If you’re always looking for the perfect game that hands it all to you on a silver platter, then, yeah, you’ll be waiting a while.  :)

This is one of those games that always makes me laugh at myself…and all of you :P

We sit here complaining about how nothing is good and the genre is a shadow of it’s former glory…real blah blah stuff. And there players that have been in this game, UO, EQ ect since launch happy as can be playing games I wouldn’t touch.

It makes me wonder if having “high standards” is a lot like being really smart. It makes you feel superior on a day to day level, but it never really makes you happy.

I have great memories of playing this when it first came out!  Glad to see that it is still around after all this time. :D
