You’re stuck in Manhattan for The Division’s launch

More than you know.

What’s the best borough of New York City? If you said Queens, Brooklyn, or the Bronx (no one ever says Staten Island), you’re going to be a wee bit disappointed when The Division launches in March. The game is taking place solely in midtown Manhattan at first; creative director Magnus Jansen explained that, “With the level of detail we have, doing midtown Manhattan is a huge open-world experience and more than enough to sink your teeth into.”

Of course, if you like midtown, it’s not an issue. And and you can take heart in knowing that the game’s PC version isn’t just a simple port; the graphics options have been uncovered and include unlocked framerates, depth of field, volumetric fog, all of the good stuff. Yes, you might be stuck in a single borough, but at least it can look very pretty. In a post-cataclysmic environment sort of way, we suppose.

Lights_andMusic Skyewauker Wild_Phil Denice J Cook The audience ALWAYS has expectations that are NEVER met due to us as gamers not having realistic expectations.  This will never, EVER change.  It’s the reddit effect.
And you don’t know how the game is going to turn out.  None of us do.  So no, its not basically a lock.  its a coin flip at this point.

I was referring to the fact that they are both massive open world RPG-shooters with story elements and a multiplayer PvP option.
“This was about expectations and how we set them upon ourselves. ”
The audience has expectations that aren’t being met, who set those expectations is irrelevant. If everyone’s expectations were being met, people wouldn’t be grumbling all over.  I dont really care either way as this is basically a lock to launch in an incomplete and buggy state (its a UbiSoft game, after all).  If people want to blame the general public for having unrealistic expectations, that’s fine, but it doesn’t change the reality that the audience is displeased.  Who is to ‘blame’ really is of no consequence

Lights_andMusic Skyewauker Wild_Phil Denice J Cook Its not GTA.  Only things it has in common is that it has guns?  The level of detail will also be a lot higher in The Division.  Also, how many GTAs have their been?  5 miles is a huge area on foot.  You cannot compare a first time out the gate game with a franchise thats been around damned near 2 decades lol.
Either way, you are responding way off beat.  This was about expectations and how we set them upon ourselves.  What does GTA and the size of that game compared to The Division have to do with us players making up our own minds about what Ubisoft was going to give us?

Wild_Phil Siphaed Why it’s a Ubisoft trademark make it all sparkly and pretty to get ppl interested then push out pre orders then downgrade the game to a more realistic standpoint n win

I think my biggest issue with this game (other than the fact that it’s made by UbiSoft) is that it’s almost what I want out of an MMO (or perhaps small group, persistent world?) experience…but then it looks like it’s going to fall short of what I really want.
I think the anticipation, and the almooooost being there, actually makes it worse when they miss the mark

Yeah, doing research before spending money on something is just stupid, right ?

Skyewauker Wild_Phil Denice J Cook I’m pretty sure when GTA launched it didn’t come with just one section of the map unlocked and tell you to wait a few weeks for the rest.    This has “released too early”  and “typical UBISoft game” written all over it.

Really depends on what (if anything) they did with building interiors.
