How players will control capital ships in Star Citizen

85

Not every spacecraft in Star Citizen will be some sleek, agile fighter; the team is prepping powerful, lumbering capital ships such as the Idris as well. In the latest 10 for the Chairman video, Chris Roberts explains how players will have to work as teams to man different bridge positions to control these massive ships when the game goes live.

Other topics for the half-hour Q&A discussion include the possibility of a shotgun-type weapon for ships, hints at future concept ships, and the progress being made with localization. But hey, if you’re interested in the game, you’re already watching the video after the break, so don’t let these paltry words slow you down!

SC_Deadline They aren’t arbitrary.  They are blind spots and are intentional.

screecwe GoJammit Fully aware of how long development has taken. I mean that I wish this had stayed a fighter game and not moved in to us buying and working toward an array of capital ships. I suppose if they need to be made for the single player game, whatever, but I don’t think that’s the whole of it.

SC_Deadline It’s not really arbitrary. It’s obvious that they’re placing them where they are for balance purposes. Yeah, in the real world no ship would have such obvious blindsides. But a game hasta be fun.

Armsbend GoJammit By your weak argument, any company that gets your money before delivery of your product would never actually complete that delivery.
That’s not how real life works.

GoJammit You know we’re three years deep, right? The ships being prioritized are those needed for the single player campaign(Squadron 42), which comes out first at the end of this year. Some of those ships that they need, are capital ships.

melissaheather The reason is that they were using an outdated engine designed for your typical “run around on a map and kill stuff” MMO, and so if they implemented crewing you would just be viewing the outside of the ship clicking buttons while the pilot was flying, and it wouldn’t be a very fulfilling experience.

Wonder if he will be able to deliver a finished product before the money runs out?
They are averaging $2 million a month in crowd funding so I don’t see how you can think they will run out of money anytime soon, and they have been hard at work actually making and releasing a very playable game so far and are releasing frequent updates with bug fixes and new content, and the persistence part of the game is right around the corner.

As for your release predictions they are as unfounded as your talk about the money, because in order to make those predictions you would need to know how much is done and how much is still left to do.
And the only way you can know that would be if you are working for CIG, and even if you were(which there is no reason whatsoever to believe you are) you would not necessarily know how much is done and how much is left to do.
As such you have nothing on which to make your predictions, making them completely arbitrary as I have already told you before.

Are you one of those individuals who will go around and say anything that comes to mind to try to dismiss and discredit the game and the work being done here. or are you actually being paid to say these things by someone who fears for their livelihood as a result of this game?

Ever hear the expression, “Better to Remain Silent and Be Thought a Fool than to Speak and Remove All Doubt”?
You have been talking this kind of unfounded nonsense of every article about this game here at MOP, which are making you seem like a fool because you clearly dont know what you are talking about, now seriously give it a rest and educate yourself.

Bluetouchpaper Please get more information before you continue to push hearsay. As TheChiefTurtle mentions, the game is actually in Alpha now, and you can fly ships, walk around the world, et al. I expect they may have the single player game by Christmas. The PU (persistent universe) would be a year after that, would be my guess. Which, is right in line with other AAA MMOs that take 5 years to produce.
