Camelot Unchained shows off weapon concepts and the growing world

Well, it's a nice lake, at least.

One of the big elements of Camelot Unchained‘s design philosophy is the difference between its three factions. It wouldn’t make a lot of sense if everyone looked the same, would it? So the start of the most recent update from the development team shows off the concept art of Arthurian swords vs. Tuatha swords. Both are very clearly designed to be slightly ornamented weapons, but the swords look very different. And really, aren’t pictures worth thousands of words on the open exchange?

Let’s hope so, because that’s largely what the update is about, with more pictures showing off improvements to the game’s rendering of building and blocks. The current version of the test client is capable of supporting 181 million buildings blocks on a server, compared to 5000 on a server in the initial builds. So while you can’t quite test the game, it’s good to know that the version you will be able to test has space to grow… and it will look pretty.

Mark Jacobs Kithred Thanks for the reply in a relatively old thread. I appreciate it. It wouldn’t have been a dealbreaker either way, but I’m glad it’s possible if you’re willing to literally give up everything for it.

Siphaed As to the water, first pass. :) As to tides, ripples, yep, we will be using Nvidia’s WaveWorks. It is on our list for summer integration.

Lheiah First, thanks as always. As to your questions:

1) We will be supporting lone wolf play, I’m a solo player myself so no worries there. :)

2) As to grouping, more on this when we enter Beta 1. We haven’t talked about the mechanics for the grouping systems but I know you’ll like what you see for our first pass at it.

Thanks again!

Tamanous Francis courant Oleg Chebeneev Nope, haven’t worked on it yet. We’ll get to it but right now, as per above and below, we’re not focusing on making a bright, shiny island but instead, pushing the procedural gen system so we know what we want to get from it on the next round of iteration. OTOH, even in its current state, it’s relatively easy for Ben to create an island or three. :)

Francis courant DennisSmith2 Yep. We are moving along nicely with some things as last week’s testing showed. Fortunately, we are looking forward to a nice productive end of spring and summer.

schlag sweetleaf Mark Jacobs If it had been 15 years ago, that would be truer than you know. OTOH, I’m older and wiser so I kept my cool and by 2:30AM I finally got a Ubuntu 14.04 work with Windows 10 in a dual-boot setup on the 2nd PC.

And when I told the story of my weekend, JB said “Oh, you could have used either VMware or VirtualBox.”

At that point, I was really glad it wasn’t 15 years ago. :)
