Square-Enix announces ‘survival action shooter’ Left Alive

22

Square-Enix announced LEFT ALIVE this morning, a “survival action shooter” that is permanently in capslock mode apparently.

We don’t know a whole lot right now as we’ve just got the trailer from the a PlayStation press conference in Japan and a tease that more is on the way at the Tokyo Game Show later this month, but we do know it’s a new IP in spite of its similarity to Front Mission, and it’s destined for the PS4 and PC (via Steam) at some point in 2018. It doesn’t technically say multiplayer, but cross your fingers? The trailer’s down below.

As long as this isnt being done by any one who worked on any of the final fantasy games, I think we are safe.

I hate trailers that show you nothing.
A hallway..
An explosion!
A ruined city..
A heliplane thing carrying a mech!

COOL -___-

It’s a “Teaser” … but yeah, didn’t show anything, it says “not actual gameplay footage” .. so they are saying they have a game, it looks like a modern or futuristic setting, it’s a survival game.

I kind of lose interest as soon as they say “not actual gameplay footage” to be honest

A survival action shooter called LEFT ALIVE just screams “yet another boring zombie game”, but the promise of mech suits suggests maybe it isn’t that? Unless it’s mech suits versus zombies, I guess.

No.

Once you kill a mech, they come back as zombie mechs.

Boring, uninteresting and because it is SE it won’t play well – but I am very happy SE is making games again rather than just rehashing FF or making horrible mobiles. (i’ll still hope for the best)

I feel slightly offended because you just stepped on large parts of my childhood and early adult life.

I was an irrational SE fan at one point. I used to buy almost anything they put out because they were always trying new things and making memorable battle systems and characters. They barely make anything anymore really. They are a company that sells nostalgia.

The World Ends With You was the last original SE IP that I can remember. That was a long time ago.

Don’t, don’t know. Isn’t it too early too tell? And yea, they should make games not just milk FF.

It is too early :) If they make a fantastic game I’m in!

Same here. I am, in fact, too experienced (as most of commenters on this site) to approve blindly. But I like Square Enix as a company, I respect their work (saving Pvt. XIV? that was class act, though not my game) and if they make a survival shooter I will at least try it.

A lot of that though is just the bubble effect around here. Last quarter with the Stormblood expansion launching, the MMO revenue nearly doubled and out performed management expectations. Even with that doubling, MMOs were a sixth of SE’s revenue and MMOs were smaller than console and obviously much smaller than the “smart device/browser” segment.

While “all” of the SE games discussed on an MMO site are MMOs, MMOs are a significant but minor part of SE’s sales.
