Overwatch’s Mercy is shown none by Blizzard, plus news on Overwatch League

Mercy just can’t catch a break.

The Overwatch healer is due for another round of brutal nerfs, the latest in a long, long line of downward adjustments to the character by Blizzard. This time, her resurrect has been changed from an instant cast and no longer gives a bonus charge, in addition to a nerf to the speed boost from her Guardian Angel ability.

Blizzard explained this latest Mercy nerf, saying, “Mercy’s recent Resurrect changes have helped in allowing enemies to have more counter play in dealing with her, but she was able to use Resurrect through Valkyrie enough to largely mitigate the impact of the previous changes. Additionally, we’re toning back the amount of mobility Valkyrie provides through Guardian Angel and reducing its duration to overall reduce the power of this ability.”

On the plus side, the studio did release an official Overwatch League companion app on iOS and Android for those who want to follow this fledgling program as it progresses through its first season. The promised League skins have finally made it into the game as well. And the community is also getting into the fun of it all, with one site creating a fantasy league for the e-sports events.

And finally, Overwatch League announced a major Twitch partnership, the benefits of which you can enjoy as soon as today, as the first tournament will stream tonight at 7 p.m. EST when San Francisco Shock takes on the Los Angeles Valiant.

I wonder if a limited duration rez would work, something that brings players back up for 20 seconds after which they die again.
Alternatively there needs to be some sort of reward for not using the rez. Maybe inflict Mercy with a stacking healing debuff when it gets used.

Watched a couple of the Overwatch league matches which started at midnight for me. Wish I had gone to bed instead as the game is not very good as a streaming game. There is too much going on too quickly and it just makes for a confused stream.

I don’t think I will be watching any more because as a viewing friendly e-sport Overwatch just doesn’t work imo.

I suppose I should say thanks for the nice black and gold skin I got for D.Va can’t remember the team its for but they had the nicest skins so I picked it for the freebie :-)

I watched the last few matches. It was very, very close, and they were pretty exciting, but it felt to me like Dallas Fuel was a bit sloppy in their playstyle. Lucio booped their D.Va into the well twice, and she couldn’t fly out either time.

If they get rid of the rez they’d have to change all her voice lines, sprays and fan art.

Why not change it so her rez doesn’t return the person to full health? Seems like a no brainer to me.

What they need to do is just remove her ability to rez period. Mercy’s whole balance issue revolves around it.

The hide-and-seek issue they had before the first rebalance still exists. I see it a good bit. Now they have to balance her again due to the Rez. Just re-work her, remove the Rez all together and be done with it. It really has no place in OW.

Yes they need to remove her rez because in the end it is basically an exploit. It shines a bad light on the team that has her as a healer because it makes them look like they can’t play and need a rezer to be effective. I call out teams with Mercy players as having no skill all the time and have a laugh at their expense when they lose. Just like I call out Torb and Symetra players as legal aimbots due to their auto turrets.

People complain about Bastion one of the weakest characters but those characters are way worse. Why? Because sentry mode Bastion cant move until he leaves that mode. His shield was removed during closed beta. other then his 300 round clip, health, and tank ultimate he can self heal. So give me Bastion any day over legalized cheats.

“How to make sure no one plays healer” by Blizzard…

She’s broken. She needs these nerfs.

She has heals but is played more like a necromancer which shouldn’t be allowed in a solid PvP game. No other healer has resurrection ability’s so hers should be removed. Her Res ability can be fired every 25 seconds and players have been complaining to Blizz about it. It used to be a mass rez ultimate.

Will have to see how it all shakes out in the game when it goes live. Might mean I can go after other heroes that are not named Mercy when I play Overwatch. ;-)

If all goes as planned, you might be forced to because no one will pick her anymore for a while! :P

Why not? She still has unlimited healing power while others have to reload or recharge.

It’s a wednesday. Better nerf Trinity… owait, wrong game.

(Warframe meme. Trinity occupies the role Mercy has. Sort of.)

have a friend that loves ow but hates what blizz has done to it over the past year or so, with allthe balance changes. i don’t imagine she’ll be happy about this news at all given one of her mains is mercy. >>

Wait, so they’re eliminating the insta-cast during her ultimate? Weird, it felt like her last nerf made her about right. The timed casting outside her ult meant she would no longer do a suicide-run rez. Why not just remove the extra rez during her ultimate? The last round of nerfs made her feel like less of a must-have character. (Seriously, after that first major buff, a Mercy was like having a 7th character on your team, and if your team didn’t have one, you were practically guaranteed to lose).

In positive news, they did fix it so that when Junkrat’s tire is destroyed, you can actually tell by what now.

At mid and high level competitive play, Mercy is consistently a must pick and the primary target for the opposing team. Her ult makes her into an unstoppable instant rez machine, providing her with pharah freedom of movement without a jump pack fuel limitation, fruit fly-like targeting frame, an ability to chain heal, all while being able to outlast all other support ults. If this doesn’t make her OP, i’m not sure what would.

Her regular toolkit is fine, but her ult needed to be reworked. I would’ve been happy with limiting instrez to only one charge, but let’s see how this one goes.

Admittedly, I don’t know how high level play goes. When I bother to do competitive, I’m bronze/low silver.

But we had a Widow main on our team last week playing Ana who was as good as any Mercy main, which made me understand why Ana was considered at one time the best healer in high-level play. She’s rarely that in QP.

I think I have played two placement matches and have never gone back into competitive since, its so not worth the grief

I want a gold Junkrat gun, but unless you have a full team of 6 to regularly play with, competitive is pretty much not worth the grief you’ll get from teammates who decide they would’ve won if the other five members of their team would’ve just played better. (It’s never, ever their own fault, of course). There’s also no way in hell I would get on voice chat with strangers.
