Ubisoft and Massive are building The Division 2

Did you see this one coming? Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment are apparently working on a sequel to The Division. The news comes via what appears to be a press release posted to German-language website 4-Traders.

“When we released our game in 2016, it was clear to us that it was just the opening chapter of a much bigger saga, so we’re excited to share more with you today about what awaits you in The Division Universe next,” Massive Entertainment’s Julian Gerighty reportedly says. “We are very pleased to announce that we are currently working on Tom Clancy’s The Division 2. […] The Division 2 will be based on an updated version of the Snowdrop Engine that will help us realize our ambitions for this title.”

For the original game, the companies also promise new global events, a Xbox One X update, and pre-Division 2-launch-tie-in events and achievements.

To this day, I still continue to play this game and I am impressed with the level of work the team has put fourth in trying to improve the title. Sure it’s fair to say that the launch and subsequent months after, offered a poor player experience but where it’s at now is worth the time and money in my opinion.

The most recent patch, 1.8 added so much value, content, and overhaul to the existing game and every patch from here has added QOL improvements. The Division as it is now, is the title that should have launched.

That said I can understand why some people would be frustrated with the announcement of a sequel considering that the game in a solid state, but the reality is there so many issues with the current engine, netcode, and other flaws on a foundation level that nothing short of a TD2 would really bring this series to its full potential.

I wonder if they’ll make this one an MMO?

Let us see if gamers are as foolish a second time. Of course, stupidity knows no bounds.

Crap devs making a sequel to a dead game that sold Twenty million copies and lost Nineteen million nine hundred sixty thousand players within 3 months of release.

Of course to the crap devs I am sure that is a game going great for them.

The Division had and has good post launch support imo, i still play it from time to time because they keep adding stuff and fixing things.

If they dont drop the ball i believe they have a pretty good idea now about how to tackle D2

I think they are doing this a little prematurely. I think the Division has much more life left. Not sure this is a great thing.

Woot! Now if only it ends up more like a tactical shooter like Wildlands and not the RPG damage sponge shooter it will likely still be..

+1 for hoping the sequel will be more tactical and less about dumping multiple clips full of ammo into a boss’s head.

The Division has only been out for 2 years? Felt like it’s been out for much longer than that.

Oh well, hopefully they’ve learned the lessons from Division 1. The PvP is pretty lackluster.
Maybe add a survival mode where you have to eat/drink/sleep and watch out for environmental hazards? Or maybe…*gasp* a battle royale mode?

Seems/sounds like they fixed up a lot of the issues at launch and turned the game into something more enjoyable for folks, so hopefully Division 2 will hit the ground running. For what it was, I did like the more tactical shooter elements mixed with co-op. Running around the singleplayer stuff though got boring to me since it felt like the same stuff I do plenty of in the Assassin’s Creed games.

Was hyped with Division 1’s beta
Was disappointed with Division 1 a few weeks after its release
Am quite happy with the game now, 2 years after release

As long as they dont pull a destiny 2, and revert all the changes, improvements, and additions they have done with the game, Division 2 might actually be decent enough to buy.
