Diablo’s Deckard Cain joins the cast of Heroes of the Storm

Don’t skip this article — stay a while and listen!

The big news for Heroes of the Storm this week is that Blizzard is bringing over one of its most iconic characters from the Diablo franchise to fight for players. That’s right, Deckard Cain is back (even though he didn’t quite make it out of Diablo III alive) and coming to the MOBA this month.

Cain is a setup healer who assists allies and keeps foes out of range with his various spells, potions, and boring stories. Seriously. And if the Diablo geek factor wasn’t high enough, Cain even hauls out the Horadric Cube as a weapon. Check out his hero spotlight after the break!

So…..his first heroic ability involves being really boring?

One of the craziest things about Blizzard is almost all of their April Fools features actually turn into real things sooner or later.

Pandaren are the biggest example since they became a whole flipping race, got heavily into Warcraft lore, even got an expansion revolving around Pandaria…

Cho’gall in Heroes of the Storm is the result of the “Ogre race” April Fools joke way back in WoW’s early days, as it requires two players to play the two-headed ogre and it mashes halves of your names together (i.e. Sorenthaz + TreasureCat became Sor’Ecat). Like it’s so funny how around 10 years after they made the April Fools joke for playable ogres in WoW, they actually put that into play with a hero in HotS.

Here of course it’s the ‘Archivist’ Diablo 3 class finally coming to life in Deckard Cain entering the Nexus.

Blizzard seriously deserves some major props for the stuff they come up with, and how they’ll commit to April Fools bits that at first were just jokes, but eventually become real content in some way/shape/form.

Yes, an April Fool’s joke (the Archivist class for Diablo 3) turning into something that’s actually going to be part of HotS.

The old page at Blizzard’s site seems to have vanished (it’s been 9 years already, after all), but you can still see more info about it at:

There’s also an actual NPC you can fight in the game. https://www.diablowiki.net/Archivist

I honestly thought it was a joke at first, but I am very excited I was wrong. I think he looks really cool, and it honestly might be the first time I spend money on HotS just so I can have him on launch.

Despite all of the negative comments in the Twitch stream during the announcement, I thought his kit looked really cool. I will definitely be interested in trying this guy out when he launches.
