Elite: Dangerous closes credit exploit, resulting in space saltiness

Dealing with either a broken system, a credit exploit, or both, Frontier announced to its community this week that it was going to have to limit players from acquiring too many of a certain type of Elite: Dangerous mission for a while.

“For mission balancing reasons, we have made a change to the Massacre Skimmer mission type: Commanders will now only be able to take up five of these missions types at a time,” the studio said. “This may be something we change in a future update and if it does, we will let you know.”

This swift fix was in response to piles of money flooding into player accounts thanks to the exploit. Reactions among the community are mixed, with some blasting Frontier for limiting fun and funds and others backing up the studio for fixing the exploit before money became meaningless.

Player attrition should be a huge metric…but it’s not, cause their numbers have been tanking lately, with the occasional blip when some decent money can be made.

I WANT to take my engineered corvette out and challenge some aliens, but THERES NO WAY CAUSE I CAN BARELY COVER 1 rebuy now. And if you think ima grind ANYTHING IN THIS GAME FOR 100 GD HOURS, at their normal shit pay, JUST TO COVER 1 REBUY!!!!!! TTHHIINNKK AAGGAAIINN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im double elite and I can’t play this game because of credits. Imagine how INSANELY FRUSTRATING THAT MUST BE.

Sure, I own every ship, so I always hear, “SELL SOME SHIPS U ENTITLED ASS.” Well, NO, I like collecting stuff, I’m a collector, it’s something I throughly enjoy…plus, I’ve purchased just about everything from the frontier store. So why the fuk would I sell things I’ve PAID ACTUAL MOTHER FUKIN MONEY FOR JUST TO CONTINUE PLAYING THIS KUNTASS GAME??!??!?!!??!

They need to GET SOME GD PERSPECTIVE and let people PLAY THE GD GAME!!!!

GREAT WORK!

And space money is meaningless, it’s just another resource or tool that helps facilitate gameplay. The endgame is the aliens, engineering and to a much smaller extent reputation, neither of which credits help with…AT ALL!

Limiting credits, for me means…I HAVENT PLAYED THIS GAME SINCE 2.4, when I USED TO PLAY TTTOOONNNSSSS.

Great work

There’s NOTHING WRONG WITH CHEESE! Jebus, real life is dreary enough, I don’t want a real life economy simulator! I want to escape!! I want some extravagance, some opulence! SOME FUN! And that’s exactly what the skimmer missions were, both now and a year ago, pre 2.3!

Having played the game a ton and it being my go-to VR game I wish they would change the way missions work as a whole. The only way to earn credits that will get you to a python in less than 40 hours is very very VERY exploit-ey feeling. You cycle the mission boards for missions relating to the task you’ll be doing. I can make 1.5-2.5 mil/hour bounty hunting. Or I can go to a mission board and cycle missions (by logging out and logging in) for 15 minutes, run those, and make 5 mil in 40 minutes. And there are other ways to make even better cash but they feel even cheesier.

I just want to be a bounty hunter and make okay credits. As it is if you’re in a higher end ship that costs 4 million to replace if it explodes then spending 2-3 hours bounty hunting feels bad. You BARELY cover the cost of one rebuy in that time!

They never had the first clue what they got themselves into when it comes to “open world multiplayer/MMO” gaming i’m afraid.
Or at the very least, that’s the impression you can’t help but getting after 3½ years.
This isn’t the first pot hole they have stepped into, far from it, and it won’t be the last.
The naivity is almost painful to watch.

Yeah, bc no other MMOs have EVER seen exploits before. Nope. Never ever.

I think the point he’s trying to make is that these are the same exploits they had since the launch, and he’s not wrong.

I play Elite on and off and I think it’s quite evident that they aren’t really fixing the problems the game has but sort of cover them up in hopes of them going away.
Not that long ago they had the exact same exploit in Rea or something, I made 3 bill there, now they have the same exploit somewhere else. and these aren’t isolated cases.

I blame Sandro Sammarco, I don’t think he has played an mmo in recent years or any modern game, he’s in charge of the development and the general game design and the game is just not great, and it could be great, it’s so easy to make Elite into a great game, he just doesn’t have a notion about how to go about it. Frontier need to replace him with someone younger.

That’s my opinion anyway.

You should start a forum campaign:

HELP MAKE America ELITE:DANGEROUS GREAT again!

You could build a giant wall between players and easily-earned credits.
You could also stress the importance of getting rid of aliens.
But don’t forget the better rewards for middle-tier pilots.

Hah! This is mostly intentional and has been going on for years. FDev gives the community new toys and an adjusted mission board which leads to some nice credit exploits (which are rarely actually THAT exploit-y… more just high-payout in comparison to other missions.)

In other news, water is wet and today is Sunday.
