Conan Exiles patch brings gamebreaking bugs, causes community uproar

It seems there’s been a bit of a hubbub surrounding the latest patch for Conan Exiles. It all started a few days ago, when Funcom announced that the “500+ patch” (so named for its “over 500 changes, adjustments, and fixes”) would likely be delayed due to many dev team members taking a “summer break.” This, as you probably guessed, disappointed much of the game’s community, who made their disappointment known on the forums. In response, two days after the initial announcement, Funcom pushed the patch onto the test servers and put out a call to arms for players to come provide feedback, incentivizing them with free copies of the game’s upcoming DLC for players who reached level 25 within a twelve-hour window.

That decision may have been a bit short-sighted, as players packed the test servers in a mad rush to reach level 25 and claim their free DLC, arguably at the expense of actually testing the patch and reporting bugs. So, perhaps unsurprisingly in retrospect, when the patch was pushed to the live servers yesterday, it brought with it legions of unexpected and often game-breaking issues, leading many players to call for complete server rollbacks.

That brings us to today, when Funcom announced that a hotfix is in the works and is slated to hit servers around 4:00 or 5:00 EDT. We don’t yet know what the hotfix will entail or if server rollbacks are potentially on the table, but we’ll be keeping an eye on the situation as it develops. And hey, if you want to check the game out for yourself once things (hopefully) smooth themselves out, you can pick it up on the cheap as part of August’s Humble Monthly Bundle.

I am very salty at those half ar**d testers even more today as I decided to load the game up again yesterday to see what the patch had changed and continue with my building projects (into which I have a LOT of hours) only to discover my singleplayer game now crashes (which it didn’t before the 500 patch) on load… thats right the great untested 500 patch broke my game.

So thank you waste of space bottom feeder pretend testers, your incompetence and greed for free DLC without doing anything broke my game, good job!!

Grr…so now I have to wait for Funcom to actually fix the fix so my games can be played again.

Once again, testing via the masses is okay, but not a great system in and of itself. There are problems with communication even when you get good testers. It just doesn’t work for a high quality product, without some major changes.

Funcom literally explained in their post that they wanted to release the patch after summer vacation so they’d have time to fix bugs and respond to feedback. -Players- bitched about it taking too long and demanded the patch be released sooner. So they did, and now players are bitching that it’s too buggy. Of course it is, you did demand that the studio rush the patch. I don’t love Funcom (AoC… Yikes…) but I don’t hate them as much as I hate consumer attitudes. Anyone with a smidge of sense would see that it makes sense to wait with big patches until after summer vacation. Sometimes it feels like people barely have any sense of perspective at all.

But they WANT it now… *The bane of so many things that could have been so much better.*

At 12 dollars as part of the monthly bundle on humble bundle I will certainly give this a try :)

Been messing about with it all day, and no new bugs I’ve seen, better performance, and enjoying the fixes that made it in. Clearly they missed some things (or there wouldn’t be a hotfix incoming tomorrow), but the sky is hardly falling on this one.

Then you are really the lucky one. Check this thread and see how many people have problems after last update: https://forums.funcom.com/t/mother-of-all-patches-pc-build-102943-18618-05-07-2018/23573/15

I miss REAL testing, you know like when you had to actually and physically sign an NDA (which if you broke, they didn’t go “oh dear” they suded your a**), and when we had to provide feedback reports with every build in order to earn your FREE copy, which they gave you in gratitude for your ACTUAL work in making the game better.

If this was me I would have said you lightweights can whistle for free DLC, EARN IT by doing what we asked…lightweights and you can bet good money the same lightweights rushing for the freebie DLC were amongst the first to complain about the patch breaking things too…sad sad world lol

This feels like a Kobayashi Maru for the company.

By the look on his face I think he’s telling the sea captain they’re going to need a bigger fly swatter.

This is just every Funcom game ever. People bagged on Obsidian for being buggy (with reason), but they had nothing on Funcom. You know what you’re getting into.
