Dungeons and Dragons Online finally gets cloaks

9
There are roughly a billion options in Dungeons and Dragons Online from which to pick, but up until this point in time, the ability to sport a visible cloak was not one of them. That’s all about to change, thanks to the delightful announcement by Standing Stone Games that cloak graphics are heading to the game.

Cloaks and their related animation will be coming to the game this fall with Update 40. These cloaks won’t be attached to specific armor but will be separate pieces of gear. There are many different types and sizes of cloak, and players will have the option to make their cloaks invisible or change to a different visual if desired.

Oh man and by now we’ve moved on to MMO hoodies in game. Capes are so 2003. I love DDO and seeing them continue to support and enhance the game makes me smile.

Dungeons and Dragons online has always had cloaks: http://m.ddowiki.com/page/Category:Back_items
They have always been invisible so my guess is that they will add a cosmetic slot perhaps like we got for rewards in the past. I can take it or leave it, most of my characters would not wear one cosmetically, except perhaps the warlock and the sorcerer. I try to get a jeweled cloak if I can for the spell absorbtion.

If i were to play this again, the first thing id do is look for the option to disable cloaks. I hate them in every game unless its a super hero game. And even then, i rarely use them.

It still blows my mind that things like Hair (specifically hair not clipping clothing, moving, appearing while in helms) and Cloaks are still such a difficulty for developers so much so that MANY games still don’t have them.

Even the likes of ESO have said Cloaks just won’t be happening.. its really pretty sad.

I kinda wish capes were less epic in MMOs, they make you look like the savior of the world. DDO’s one also seems to fall into this category.

Nifty. It’s these kinds of changes which are awesome to see, helping build out a world.

Do you remember Thunderhead the Barbarian?

All was well, another dragon slain when his cloak was snagged in a trebuchet!

NO CLOAKS!

to be fair, if his cloak hadn’t gotten snagged in the trebuchet he never would have been able to reach the dragon flying around up there in order to slay it.

the landing needs work tho.
