Nike partners with a professional League of Legends esports player

Someone must have had fun with this at some point, right?

If you’ve ever watched someone playing a really good match in League of Legends and muttered “it’s gotta be the shoes,” you are possibly the target audience for Nike’s new endorsement deal with professional LoL player Jian “Uzi” Zihao. Also, you have odd ideas about what shoes do. But Zihao is still the first professional esports player to get an endorsement deal with Nike, so it’s definitely a big step in the right direction for people eager to show off esports as a legitimate athletic avenue.

The endorsement has not yet been formally announced, to be fair; fans simply found Zihao’s profile on the company’s international page alongside other high-profile athletes such as LeBron James. So there’s always the vague possibility of some corporate antics coming up, but it makes sense that Nike would be interested in selling you shoes even with a sport which does not really involve using your feet. Unless you’ve got a really odd setup for your mouse, maybe.
