Raise your hand if you’re surprised by this: BioWare’s much-anticipated online shooter Anthem went live for Origin Access subscribers earlier today, but the servers have been suffering under the load of players, resulting in connection issues and server outages much akin to the ones that vexed the game’s VIP and public demos. Apparently, many players attempting to log in to the game have been unable to get past the title screen, their progress blocked by a message saying that the Anthem service is currently unavailable.
EA has taken to Twitter to tell players that it’s aware of the issues and is working to identify the cause so it can deploy a fix:
Hello, Freelancers! We understand some of you are having issues connecting to #AnthemGame servers right now and we’re working to address it as fast as we can. Please hang with us and try again in a few minutes.

Although by now such launch-day hiccups are commonplace and largely expected, some fans may find it a bit irritating for Anthem’s release day to be marred by these issues in light of the fact that BioWare dealt with very similar server-load-related issues throughout the game’s two demo weekends. Still though, at this point there’s really nothing players can do but sit tight and wait for the devs to patch things up. In the meantime, however, perhaps you’d like to kill a few minutes checking out the Neill Blomkamp-produced live-action Anthem trailer?
