Starbase previews ships in new video and discusses its monetization plans

We’ve known about Starbase for just a week, and already Finnish developer Frozenbyte is amping up the hype with a third video, this one focusing on the game’s rather important spaceships. Perhaps alleviating some of our concerns about the difficulty of creating ships from scratch without a degree, the studio says players will be able to piece together their own ships with precisely the right features, but we can also just buy a premade ship and run with that.

In other Starbase news, the MMORPG Reddit is in the midst of a heated discussion over the game’s planned business model; apparently a developer told Discord participants that the studio is planning “to fully live forever with the one-time payments” but is “prepared to sell some cheap, one-time, cosmetic only in-apps [in-app purchases aka IAP aka cash shop microtransactions] as well,” though it does say the “best” cosmetics will be accessible only through playing.
