The folks at Respawn Entertainment announced at EA Play this weekend that Season 2 of Apex Legends will be kicking off next month on July 2nd, and it promises to bring some electrifying new additions to the free-to-play battle royale title.
For starters, the new season will introduce a brand-new Legend, electrical-engineering wunderkind Natalie “Watson” Paquette. As the daughter of the Apex Games’ lead electrical engineer, Wattson was the one who actually designed the lethal containment ring that defines the limits of the game’s battlefield, but with her father’s passing, she’s decided to take a more hands-on approach and enter the games herself. As a combatant, Wattson will be able to set up nodes that, when connected, create an electrified fence that damages and slows down enemies, while her Interception Pylon ultimate ability “destroys incoming ordnance and repairs damaged shields as long as it stands,” providing shocking support that can turn the tide of battle.
In addition, Apex Legends Season 2 will debut the game’s new ranked mode, in which players will be matched up based on skill level to compete to progress through six ranking tiers, earning “exclusive cosmetics and rewards at the end of each season” based on how they place. Combatants will also have an all-new way to dish out damage with the L-STAR energy machine gun. And of course, a new season also means a new Battle Pass “full of fresh rewards, special challenges, even more Legendary skins, the ability to earn crafting metal, three entirely new content categories, and more.” While players wait for the commencement of the new season, they can pass the time with the Legendary Hunt in-game event, in which they can earn an assortment of skins for their weapons and Legends until the event’s conclusion on June 18th.
