WoW Classic has added still more servers a week out from launch

Remember Blizzard’s last post warning WoW Classic players to stop trying to pile onto the poor Herod PvP server, to plan to play elsewhere lest they face 10,000-player queues? And remember how Blizzard said it wasn’t gonna just raise realm caps to let everyone play on Herod?

Blizzard blinked first. Or maybe there’s just too damn many people trying to register names for this thing.

“The existing PvP realms all now have either a Full or High population tag,” Blizzard wrote this afternoon. “With the potential for extended queues on the Full realms, and 10,000+ queues on Herod, we are opening [three] new PvP realms on Monday, August 19 at 6:00 p.m. PDT [9 p..m. EDT].” It works out to two for North America and one for Europe:

Blaumeux – PvP – Pacific Time Zone (NA)
Skeram – PvP – Eastern Time Zone NA)
Firemaw – PvP – English (EU)

That’s in addition to the Stalagg server added last week (at which point Blizzard had already identified Herod as a problem server). That’s what, 29 servers now? How many more will we see?

This doesn’t include all the people who will sub and try to login on the day.

I dunno, I think I am going to skip the launch and play in September. I really don’t want to be stuck waiting in a server queue or be in a beginner zone with hundreds of other players trying to get 10 boar livers.

Hopefully layering does its job in the beginning to avoid that.

They’ll add as few as they think they can get away with. While I haven’t see a Blizzard source directly cited, I’ve commonly seen thrown around that they expect an 80% drop-off, presumably by the time they turn off layering. That seems like a reasonable assumption given how quickly most MMOs drop off. But who knows? Maybe there really is some magic with Classic WoW that will make it stick with more people.

Oh boi, and there are still tons of ppl who are yet to sub like me, all servers will go under heavy load on release.

I don’t have any plans to play WoW Classic, but I hope it is everything fans and players have been anxiously awaiting.

and mine LOL
oh well-we’ll see how many are playing Horde on that server

My comment was more of a sideways jab at the people who always claim there’s more PvE players and why are all the new games so PvP focused. It’s obviously not that simple, but that’s why it’s a jab ;)

Listening to podcasts they all pretty much say the same thing, it’s not the gank fest you’d imagine it to be, and some of the stories they tell are really intriguing tbh, however i can’t help but feel it’s going to be an overall pita in reality like an annoying persistent fly you always have to shoo away as you try and do something.

Going to find out soon enough i suppose, i’m not sure classic will take for me anyway, retail is pretty sweet actually but as i discovered it’s still wow at the end of the day.

Not a bad thing but when i hit 120 i was still pretty much still in legion, working towards getting the class mount for my warlock, i need to get that purple one, but haven’t done much bfa.

As i started homing in on things i need to do to get that mount (which i’m still working on but less to do), i started doing more bfa and yea it’s when it came back to me, yep it’s still wow, it’s a bummer to try and play and a plethora of bots running all over where your trying to play destroys immersion, that overall grind hit i guess as well.

Dunno felt all caught up in what, a month and that was starting from scratch with nothing, kinda felt like i’d never left, 15 years compressed into a month. As i played i was so glad that i didn’t grind a bunch of stuff which became useless first drop on next expansion.

However i’m still into retail, but that drive, insane push i had to get to end game is over and am playing less, thankfully, i got chit to do lol. Not counting my 80 alt and several other lower level alts i dropped 10 days played since i returned like only month or so maybe 2 months ago?

Still have so much to do but that drive to “catch up” or whatever it was has dissipated where i’m working on the list but only tossing a couple hours a night at it again. I’m in a good groove.

Again i’m surprised but not at the same time, so many pvp servers maybe there is something to this after all.

One good thing though, it’s making me feel better about picking the rp-pvp server over the rp-pve server.

Thanks for the heads up! :) I only deleted one of my currently-saved three names, though, just in case it’s the usual classic WoW server shit show tonight, too. :P

Morhaime was right. They should have listened.

Blizzard is not prepared.

Idk they seem to be doing just fine.

“Just fine” hasn’t applied to anything Blizzard has done in ages. Their investors are threatening to sue. None of their games are leading the pack. They just laid off nearly a thousand employees and hired on a couple of corporate sharks.

I dunno if you’ve ever seen what happens to a company before it gets bought out or broken up and sold off, but Blizzard right now is what the run-up looks like, and they manage to look weaker with every news report.

Are we still talking about blizzard’s management of wow classic or just hyperbolically projecting the future of a publicly traded corporation?

Reader
Bruno Brito

I’m sure that this is all true ( bit hyperbolic, but true ), but i gotta agree with Nex here.

Within the grasp of Classic, they’re doing just fine. Hell, they NEED to do just fine, else they’re going to be fucked.

I’m not sure where any of this comes from, say what you like about their games but there is no doubt whatsoever that they are swimming in cash.

You mean adding servers when others fill up like normal companies do isn’t prepared? That is why character reservation exists.

Reader

Well, the fact there was a PVPRP server got me to resub, and luckily for me the population is not likely to be that crazy on it. Funny, I was told we didn’t want this………

Reader
Dominick Critelli

Don’t be too sure about that. The RP-PVP servers are among the ones that /always/ have managed to retain a consistent playerbase, and the fact that there will only be one of them per region means that they’ll probably be pretty hefty in terms of population.

Reader
Max Sand

Probably true, hard to judge based on pre-registration, guess we will see on launch day, but If they didn’t have one in my region I was going to sit Classic out, so even if I get queues, not a big deal.
