City of Heroes Homecoming adjusts snipes and Dominator powers with the latest patch

Just because City of Heroes’ current servers are still rogue server doesn’t mean their content will be locked in perpetuity. Case in point: The Homecoming servers are being patched up today with an update that touches every single Dominator Assault powerset.

When we say every powerset, we mean it: The patch notes detail a wide swath of adjustments, and the vast majority of these changes are on the buff side of the spectrum with damage increases, recharge reductions, and cast time reductions across the board – all much needed upgrades for one of the most maligned and underplayed archetypes in the game. There are a few outliers among some of the Assault sets, however; for example, Icy Assault will see more damage but longer recharge times and Martial Assault will see tweaks to damage scaling, recharge speed, and damage.

The patch has also changed Snipe powers across multiple classes in a pretty significant manner. Players will no longer need to have ToHit buffs to achieve a fast Snipe attack; you’ll need only to have attacked or have been attacked in the last eight seconds for one to go off. As a result, ToHit buffs will now affect how much damage fast Snipes inflict, to a maximum of +22%.

There are a number of other updates such as changes to some Stealth powers, a few tweaks to Devices, and an additional 676 base items introduced to the supergroup base editor.

In the spring of 2019, gamers uncovered a secret City of Heroes server running using the sunsetted game’s original code, which was ultimately turned over to the community. There are now multiple public and private servers for the beloved superhero MMORPG, with over 100,000 people on Homecoming alone. NCsoft has not commented publicly or taken legal action on them and is still in talks regarding the game’s future as of August 2019.

If Activision Blizzard are riding on the “older games are better than newer games” money train with WoW Classic then NCSoft should consider climbing aboard as well.

*Pigtails quietly peek behind the door to see if their is any indication of formalizing these servers with NC*

…it doesn’t appear to be. :(

*Then they disappointedly slink back off to go do what they where originally doing*

These guys are not only running the game but updating it as well! Why on earth would you want the people who killed it the first place anywhere near this? :S

Because said people are one conversation with a lawyer away from shrugging and put out a cease and desist order. And before you become one of those people that says “lulz c&ds dont mean jack”, they can mean life as a felon and potentially jail time for the folks running the server.

Ahh but you see for them to do that they would actually have to care in the first place so the danger seems minimal to me. :P

NCguy: Some doods are running a City of Heroes private server!
NCLawyer: Hmm City of Heroes….didn’t we shut that one down?
NCguy: Yeah a while back now.
NCLawyer: How come?
NCguy: It wasn’t making any money….
NClawyer: Ahh….Fancy a pint?

After a lot of tribulation, I finally gave in and got back into the CoH phenomenon again. And, as soon as I get a idea for a Dom, I’m going to make one or twenty.
