The classes of Crowfall might certainly sound fantastical — Champion, Confessor, Duelist — but at the brass tacks level, they’re really just the classic tabletop RPG trio of Fighter, Mage, and Rogue, as evidenced by a little synopsis posted on the game’s site.
The post links to the detail pages of each class, but ultimately explains that all 11 of Crowfall’s classes fall under those archetypes, with expected gameplay offerings for each; the Fighter classes are all about getting in the mix and dishing out damage, the Mage classes offer up backline support and damage, and the Rogue classes operate like sneaky strikers or forward scouts. The post also touts its Passive Skill system and how advancement through Passives as well as inventory are shared across a player’s account, offering incentive to those who like to roll alts.
The entire tone of the post is interesting insofar as it seems to be talking to full-blown newbies to Crowfall, which could be read as the game trying to court new players. That said, the devs have gone on record with a laundry list of things that need to be addressed before beta and larger scale testing starts. Still, if you are indeed wholly new to the game, it might not be a bad idea to get cozy with the classes.
