Hi-Rez’s squad-based multiplayer shooter Rogue Company enters paid beta on EGS

27

Last time we peeked in on Rogue Company, the multiplayer shooter coming out of Hi-Rez’s internal First Watch Games label, we were given a lot of promises of what the game is hoping to be. In more recent news, however, the game is now available to play in beta… provided you’re willing to pay for it.

Yep, this is one of those pay-for-beta-access jobs, offering up three different founder’s packs ranging in price between $15 and $60, though the third tier pack is on a 10% discount until August 3rd. If you’ve missed out on hearing about Rogue Company, the game promises “energetic gameplay, and third-person, action movie flair” as well as cross-platform play on PC and all major consoles once it fully launches.

If you’d rather see things play out instead, there is 15 minutes of alpha gameplay video embedded below just in case you want to vicariously try before you buy.

Gotta love the trolls that come into every Hi-Rez thread like “oh they’ll abandon this one too” because they’re one of six people who were fanboys of Global Agenda or Tribes, both of which were failed products with less than negligible fan bases. That was seven years ago, it’s time to move on.

So…Far from me to defend Hi-rez, but…

This is par for the course. They always do this shit. They did with Smite, if i well recall.

Thing is, they also distribute a lot. A LOT. A. L O T. Of keys over the internetverse. Everyone could play Smite if they searched for a key long enough. Almost no one paid.

Rogue Company will probably be the same. Viewers on Twitch are already getting keys just by watching.

Paid beta…

…they know where they can stuff that.

They will use their current game to test their future game and then flush the community down the toilet. Look up Global Agenda, Tribes Ascend, etc…

etc…

Smite? Still here.

Hi-Rez are trend-chasers and Smite hit it big enough for them not to dump it and move on. After they burned me with Tribes I don’t trust them at all.

So? They are. Doesn’t change the fact that neither Tribes and GA paid bills.

I’m a huge fan of GA. Didn’t play Tribes but i felt when people got schmucked by Hi-rez terrible decisions with it.

But that doesn’t mean they abandon everything. Smite is a good example. Paladins, with all it’s problems is also alive.

Hi-rez issue is chase-trending, which means their games fall HARD after the fad passes. Which also means they can’t keep trying to revive it forever.

I still want GA2 but that doesn’t mean i’m not aware that it was enough to keep HR afloat. It wasn’t.

Typical Hi-Rez. See the latest trend and rush a clone out. That’s all they know how to do. One trick pony that one. I wonder how long until they abandon this one.

I thought this exact thing. I hope to god no one invests their time and effort into this regurgitated pile of trash!

Funny tho, because the people i’ve saw play the game actually enjoy it.

That being said, i really wanted this to be Global Agenda 2.

It’s mind blowing to me think that this is the ‘same’ company that developed such a great game like Global Agenda. What a shame.

Yes, there are founder packs from 15 to 60 dollars.

I got my access via Alienwares give away (i dont even own anything alienware, they were just giving away a bunch of free keys).

Intel was doing the same, as were many other sites.

If you connect your twtich account on the main website, and watch a streamer who has drops enabled, you also have a chance to get a free key, just for watching.

Due to the large amount of free keys they are giving out, I dont think they are too worried about there not being enough players.

Hi-Res pushing out another game they’ll abandon soon after. Pass. Give us Global Agenda 2 and maybe we’ll talk.

We’ll never see GA2 sadly. Which is real unfortunate because GA was probably one of the more unique and well crafted games they made. Not a copy-cat of current trends like they do now.

Well and it really depends on what one thinks of when saying Global Agenda 2. Does that include the PvE content and open world area(s) they added later or is it strictly the PvP portion that was instanced/role-based? Because Paladins was basically what the original GA2 project (later dubbed Global Assault, a spiritual successor aimed at the class-based PvP portion of Agenda) turned into.

Everything.

Yikes. Paid beta and EGS exclusive. No thank you.

This is pretty sad on so many levels. There are already plenty of “small team” FPS games from slow-paced Rainbow Six: Siege to Valorant and CoD. And asking people to pay for beta access of such game is the very definition of “greed”.

This one has a much higher TTK, which makes all the difference for me in this day and age of games like this.

Reader

If you want a small team FPS game with high TTK – why not play Overwatch?

Reader
Dug From The Earth

Been playing overwatch for 5 years… Looking for something new now.

Unfortunately who knows if that’ll last or not. If it follows the same patterns Realm Royale and Paladins did, there’ll be random kneejerk changes that could really screw up the original flow of the game.
