PlanetSide 2 is finally nerfing the Firestorm implant in today’s update

Daybreak’s Rogue Planet Games is rolling out an update for PlanetSide 2 this morning, focused on tweaks to the Firestorm implant that effectively nerf recoil and cone of fire bloom for the overall health of the game.

“Community feedback on this implant has been somewhat contentious,” Daybreak admits. “The activation and opportunity cost of Firestorm doesn’t regulate the effectiveness of the implant enough among high-skill players, so we’ve added some detriments that make Firestorm’s useage more niche. When the effect is active, horizontal recoil, cone of fire bloom on both aim down sights and hipfire are increased by 200%, and horizontal recoil tolerance is effectively uncapped. These changes should make the implant more weapon, playstyle, and situation specific, and reduce the skill disparity it creates. We can start at these values, and tune as necessary moving forward.”

The studio also notes a few other tweaks to performance, bug fixes, and even an exploit plug for Colossus Shield. Downtime this morning was expected to run from 9 a.m. EDT to 11 a.m. EDT, so if all goes well, the servers will be back roundabout the time this post is published. Update: Yep, they’re back up now!
