The devs of Final Fantasy XI don’t seem to really appreciate what “maintenance mode” is understood to mean, judging by the new pieces of content arriving to the game. First off is some patch notes for the latest version update, which saw the opening step of The Voracious Resurgence story arc yesterday while the rest of the August update introduced some adjustments to Ambuscade, adds new abilities, pets, and pet skills to Beastmaster, and also adds new items, synthesis recipes, and synergy recipes.
The opening part of Voracious Resurgence, by the way, is explained by producer Akihiko Matsui as additional content on top of normal monthly updates. He also states that each part of the new storyline will be “a bit on the humble side” in terms of size, with the arc planned to run all the way through to the game’s 20th anniversary in 2022.
As for the immediate future, Final Fantasy XI fans can also look forward to the Sunbreeze Festival, which brings fireworks displays, a superheroine show, street shops with a variety of minigames, the return of the goldfish scooping minigame, and item vendors that will sell things from previous festivals. The summertime fun runs between August 14th and the 31st.
Maintenance mode.
