The Daily Grind: What upcoming MMOs have fallen off your radar?

The joke around the Massively OP office is now that Chris is covering Star Citizen news with his angle of expertise, the rest of us can take a break from trying to ride that bucking bronco of news. Honestly, I stopped being interested in Star Citizen a long time ago. It’s too much drama, too lengthy of a development cycle, and too full of devs that like to write walls of text instead of producing results.

It’s like that with upcoming MMOs — some fall into your orbit of interest, while others drift away over time. For today’s discussion, I’m curious which future MMOs you used to track but are now no longer paying close attention to their development. Which games have fallen off your radar?

Every morning, the Massively Overpowered writers team up with mascot Mo to ask MMORPG players pointed questions about the massively multiplayer online roleplaying genre. Grab a mug of your preferred beverage and take a stab at answering the question posed in today’s Daily Grind!

Ashes of Creation. Too sketchy for me to put more thought into it, though what I’ve seen in the past sounds okay?

My radar is much different than it was years ago, in the golden age of MMO’s. Where once I would rabidly scour and comment in a developers forums daily, today my enthusiasm and expectations are a mesh of scar tissue that have taught me, “It’ll be here when it’s here. Or it won’t.” – I check in on a game on my radar once every month or so, or if something notable hits the MMO news cycle.

Fallen off my radar: Star Citizen, Camelot Unchained, Crowfall. All in slow development hell, none are playing the way I expected, and in spite of how much I long for a return to “the good old days”, I’ve accepted that none of them are gonna be a good fit for me.

Still on my radar: Ashes of Creation and Pantheon. Ashes looks like it will be fun for awhile, but Pantheon is shaping up to be just what I’ve been waiting for, and nothing they’ve done these past few years has disappointed. Pantheon has been a long wait – and it will (or should) certainly get longer – but it will continue to be something I keep an eye on until it releases.

project gorgon. I like the small feel of that mmo. Updates keep coming every 2-3 months.

Spotcheck on ashes and crow fall, but I don’t see myself committing.

My heart was set on new world but it is just dull to me.

I must admit, I just drop into the SC when there’s a release, just to have a look around and then leave it until the next time. I really gave up on it when the feature creep really began set in.

It just seemed that they were promising the world just to get another level of funding and that set off a whole load of alarm bells go off in the back of your head.

Honestly, there are no MMOs I’m looking forward to at this point. Maybe Pantheon in a few years?

With zero sarcasm, I have to say, I’m having trouble thinking of an upcoming MMORPG that is on my radar right now.

A lot of this, of course, is because most game publishers don’t seem interested in making new MMORPGs right now — or don’t want to call their games MMORPGs, even when they seem to be.

Maybe City of Titans is a game I still anticipate? But I’ll probably be 236 years old when that one releases. :-) Seriously, though, I love the team’s heart and dedication, but they’re a small, volunteer group, as I recall. It’s gonna take them a while to get things to a launch state, I suspect.

New world. Deff off my radar. Looks like garbage.

For me, Camelot Unchained. I never backed it, but it sounded exactly like the kind of MMO I was looking for and early on, followed it religiously. However, it’s been in development so long, I just don’t care anymore, I’ve moved on.

Pantheon has lost interest and been replaced by Ashes and maybe New World. Dual Universe is hopefully something.

Camelot Unchained. I could write a lot of facts based on which I believe this game will not be something I will like even though I thought I would long time ago but that is not really important. Now I’m just waiting for my refund while watching all the drama in its unofficial subreddit. As soon as I’ll get – I’ll stop paying any attention to it.

And for Star Citizen – I was never really interested in it.
