Rumor: Lord of the Rings Online’s next class might be the Brawler [Updated]

Sharp-eyed Lord of the Rings Online players seem to have discovered a big secret on the game’s test server: the existence of a new class-in-the-making called the Brawler.

A screenshot from the Bullroarer test world and reportedly taken by player jailwartho is making the rounds on Discord and the forums, showing a curious drop-down menu that lists all of the game’s classes, including one we’ve never seen before. Another player found additional evidence pointing to the Brawler in the game’s text files.

However, some are saying that rather than this being a headlining class for 2021’s Gundabad expansion, the Brawler might be a temporary session play class that accidentally showed up in the wrong place.

If this rumor is true, it will be a significant development for the game. LOTRO has been very stingy on adding new classes over the years, with only three brought in after the launch: the Rune-keeper and Warden in 2008 and the Beorning in 2014.

Update 9/27: It looks as though this is a confirmed rumor! On the forums, the game’s CM wrote, “Obviously you’ve all seen something we weren’t quite ready to talk about, but we’ll have more information in the near future. Just to make sure people are aware, this is not something that would be coming to War of Three Peaks.”

Source: Official forums. Thanks Serow!

No? It’s clearly just a side by side comparison.

Dafuq?

At least the $100 price tag will minimize the amount of hobbits uppercutting urukhai you’ll see…

This better not be a new class. It just shouldn’t be, but knowing them and how they want to cash in from their store or through overpriced “expansions” it probably is… Nevermind that the leveling experience is completely broken, as is their class balance and not to mention the LI’s which they have been promising a fix for years now. It’s so mind-numbingly dreadful to watch something that could be great in the right hands, go up in flames.. I wish we could have some very well intentioned caring people take over this game as an EMU, because I bet anything they could do a better job.

the Brawler might be a temporary session play class

The existing classes are a broken mess with no balance at all and only every now and then get small tweaks (like cooldown changes) in a random effort to fix something. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if they sold another class on top though, it’ll sell well regardless of how broken it is and they can probably add on a deluxe $100 version with a new cape too.

As someone who bought the Beorning, I hope if they do bring in a new class to LOTRO they are sure they have the ability to actually support it.

Based on just the last few months, it seems highly unlikely that they would be able to support it.

Now if they added this to the overpriced mini expansion coming out in a few months then people might not gripe about the price….but what do I know.

The OF is hilarious. Most folks are saying “sort out the classes we have”, “you still haven’t fixed the LI system!” Talk about not reading the room.

Uhh, in their backward warped thinking fixing LI’s or the classes they have do not translate into cash.. Because what MMO players really want are more broken options and certainly not gameplay that works as it should…
