Rumor: Lord of the Rings Online’s next class might be the Brawler [Updated]

Sharp-eyed Lord of the Rings Online players seem to have discovered a big secret on the game’s test server: the existence of a new class-in-the-making called the Brawler.

A screenshot from the Bullroarer test world and reportedly taken by player jailwartho is making the rounds on Discord and the forums, showing a curious drop-down menu that lists all of the game’s classes, including one we’ve never seen before. Another player found additional evidence pointing to the Brawler in the game’s text files.

However, some are saying that rather than this being a headlining class for 2021’s Gundabad expansion, the Brawler might be a temporary session play class that accidentally showed up in the wrong place.

If this rumor is true, it will be a significant development for the game. LOTRO has been very stingy on adding new classes over the years, with only three brought in after the launch: the Rune-keeper and Warden in 2008 and the Beorning in 2014.

Update 9/27: It looks as though this is a confirmed rumor! On the forums, the game’s CM wrote, “Obviously you’ve all seen something we weren’t quite ready to talk about, but we’ll have more information in the near future. Just to make sure people are aware, this is not something that would be coming to War of Three Peaks.”
