Shroud of the Avatar adds mounts, the Breach, map changes, and economy changes in R83

Release 83 has landed in Shroud of the Avatar, and with it comes a whole lot of changes as outlined in the official newsletter. High on the list (quite literally) is the addition of 16 mounts, 13 of which come from the Crown Store but six are obtainable by those who own certain foal decoration pets and three can be earned through the exchange of certain tamed horses. In addition, there will be four mount-based skills added to the Tactics skill tree. These are just the first set of mounts to be added, with more promised in the future.

Release 83 also introduces a variety of changes to the game’s world, like a number of scene mini-maps, a host of changes to several existing adventure scenes, and the addition of the Breach adventure scene. Players can expect some crafting and economy changes such as a reduction of crafting and gathering times in preparation for the addition of higher tier items, an adjustment to the Daemon Tea buff, and the inclusion of food item effects to the Elixir Extension skill.

Finally, an assumed exploit regarding training dummies was investigated by Catnip Games and found to not need too much action, as the discovered method didn’t earn XP faster so much as let players spend some a bit quicker — something that could be achieved through “a simple one key macro” according to the official tweet.

I love the mounts and the new skills. You do not need to buy the crown shop ones. Tamers can tame and convert to mounts they can sell to players at no cost. The store ones are for the more fancy looking ones which is similar to all the existing fluff shops in other mmos. The skills are geared for either speed or carry capacity for all the miner / gathers who want to go until they can’t move.

There is other mounts coming soon for tamers, bears, wolves, etc. which I look forward to seeing. they mentioned it will be 4 legged creatures with horse like skeletal design for matching the animations up. than later more specialized.

They also mentioned jousting as something coming.

I could not be happier that they are finally getting organized to fix all the bugs and finish off the tings they started as well they are giving dates for roadmap items again via the streams. It took a while but the new devs are doing a fantastic job. Kudos to Catnip!

Considering how small the instanced zones are, mounts are pretty much useless. They are just deco items in an empty game.

It’s also another feature half-implemented on top of a series of systems developed in the same way.

Hopefully after their month of bugfixing they’ll take another month and go back and actually finish… well, ANYTHING. Personally, I’d like to see if they could do anything for the single-player classic Ultima experience this was supposed to have been from the start. But it looks like that farce is long dead and buried, especially since Lord Brexit only shows up to wave like Young Mr. Grace from Are You Being Served? and then bugger off to play celebrity tourist.

Hold your pants on guys.
You get crowns with a monthly subscription. If you have any problems with monthly subscriptions… mmos are perhaps not for you… even wow-classic needs an active subscription. And you get no ingame reward in return. I do not see any moneytrap here.

So please stop beating a dead horse. The Sota Team made mistakes in the past. Get over it.

I smell sarcasm… but thats ok.
For me it was fine. I bought two mounts from my subscription crowns. And still have easily some left for a third one if i want. Honestly. From my perspective it is a perfectly fine system. And well… i would not call mounts „pay to win“ or a „game-changer“. You can life without them, cant you?

And as everything from the crown store you can buy it from other players. Hack – you can buy even crowns with ingame money.

If your perspective is an other, thats ok. But do not blame the game / system in general.

I think you are simply filled with bitterness because you lost either money ore high hopes to this game. Maybe both? As said. Get over it.

How far are you going to keep moving those goalposts?

People were commenting about what kind of crappy jank is being asset flipped for more than it is worth, because Portnip still can’t bother to do as their community have asked of them and develop properly before shoveling something out the door. If they were properly developed THEN it might be forgivable that they’re selling these mounts at about the same price they paid for the assets in the Unity store.

You also seem really defensive about this and don’t like people to talk about it. In that case, I think more people should be talking about it – not that it would matter for even the die-hard fans, because they’ve been trying:

This release schedule cycle needs to stop. We get it. If its not ready yet, STOP adding releases that are not even finished. Finish, test, and then release. You already have the resources to test this first. Then get a actual working release candidate working. Please stop this destructive cycle.

This seems to have been the real SotA story here for a while, because they’ve been covering the series of Portnip taking a feature partway and then bailing for the next shiny to get people to cash in on.

How’s that sunken cost biting at you? Yeah, that was your projection.

I think you are misinformed. There are only the dino assets and the big cats and very few other that were unity assets including the undead horse.. The rest were made in house by a few of the team. So not sure where you are getting that these are the price of the unity assets when they are created in house. Now reusing what they have and putting new textures and skins on the other hand is a different story. As to testing that has got a lot better the last 2 months as the Bug team is back in action. A few minor animation issues still but it was functional enough to roll out. only 1 main bug remains which is getting rolled out in the next small patch as mentioned in Catnips twitch. Additional things though like Jumping will be coming I am sure seeing many of us would like that as it feels wrong not having it. Over all the mounts were very well done, I have not heard anyone in my guild complain and we all think its great that they finally delivered on another item that was backed.

This game is full of moneytraps, even if one takes your comment at face value. But okay.

I think they were hoping that nobody would notice that you actually get a game that’s far more sanely developed and polished with a WoW subscription. SotA are still making even the diehards beat their heads in trying to get a sane release schedule so the devs aren’t patching in the rest of the mount system to live.

Vladamir Begemot, Avatar Express:

Come on guys, you don’t like half finished stuff?

Well, moving on…

It’s a tradition.

But if you save up for two months you can buy an asset flip in SotA!

For just a bit more, you could get a cool mount in FFXIV. Some have their own music and effects while riding on them. Most are account-wide.

More transparent asset flipping to make a quick buck. Oh but Richard Garriott was on a recent livestream! Keep opening your wallets, whales.

When Chris needs money quickly he releases player anticipated content via cash shop. Even before giving people who paid for it first through an old stretch goal.

MONEY BABY!!!

ep2 is still in early access (alpha/beta) no eta yet. took 5 years for ep1 to release :) but early access so far has been pretty good with the things they added. look forward to the floating zones etc coming :) new Raid is pretty hard. And they finally have specific items dropping from specific zones which now makes finding what you are farming for better.

Are their even any virtues left in Ultima?

I guess the guardian won and corrupted everything.

Jesus Christ. This game really is a moneytrap, and doesn’t even try to hide.

You realize that you can simply tam a foal, dont you?

Please do the world a favor and think or perhaps even better read before you write.

indeed, I think folks though it was only going to be store because they were late putting in the stable npc’s for tamers. I look forward to the other mounts they were talking for more taming options :)

No, they obviously didn’t when this was quoted:

the addition of 16 mounts, 13 of which come from the Crown Store

It should have been obvious that they were commenting how the Crown Store additions were the usual set of asset flips. Remember the BBQ smoker Portnip had to “fix” by adding rust to make it acceptable? Good times.

yeah the modern one I remember many didnt like it. Either way who cares ever game out there that has a store charges for skins. there is in game non fancy ones that are free. Also dont forget those that sub got it cheaper than the store along with all the other stuff. there are 6 non store ones in game currently (3 were backer foals way back, and 3 are tamable right now) all run, and carry the same only looks are all that are different which have no benefits.

perhaps you dont play many new games these days. most new games have about the same for cash shop skins. that is all they are. they do not do anything other then look cool. that said there are actually 6 non store ones in game but yes all horses only. On another note tamers will be getting stags, wolves, bears and others soon, pretty much any animal that has the same animation structure as horses. Boars, spiders and more complex skeletons will come once they get more animations made. They were even talking about having Studio G. come back and help with some. Look as TESO they are almost all the same store bought assets, Wow has it etc… Now they could for coolness sake perhaps create some fancy drops for mounts that would probably fix those like yourself who complain that you can’t have anything nice looking for free… but its all just a skin at the end of the day.
