Prosperous Universe isn’t quite so prosperous from a fiscal standpoint, apparently. The developers have announced that a monthly subscription to play the game is now a “necessity,” as funding for the space-based multiplayer trading sandbox will soon run dry.
“While the support from the community with supporter packages has been highly appreciated and has helped us tremendously, it unfortunately is not a viable long-term sustainable model. The funding for the game runs out next year; hence, a switch to the previously announced monthly subscription model has become a necessity.”
The start of monthly subscriptions will also mark the beginning of the game’s arrival to early access, with the introduction of shipbuilding set to arrive beforehand and a full reset of the game’s universe afterwards. As for subscription costs, those will be offered in one, three, six, or 12-month packages. Pricing isn’t fully elaborated on, but the three-month sub will cost 21 EUR or about $25 USD. Furthermore, pricing isn’t expected to raise or lower in the near future, but the devs also believe that subscription prices should change based on the game’s growth and improvement in quality over multiple releases. And for those who are not looking to upgrade to PRO, the game will still remain free-to-play for you.
Firm dates are yet to be pinned down, but players should expect shipbuilding and early access to start this year, while the world reset will happen sometime in 2021.
