WRUP: Absolutely the final WRUP ever (we mean it really seriously) edition

Bye

Well, folks, it’s been a lot of fun doing all of these columns. We’ve laughed, we’ve cried, we’ve done that thing where we laugh really hard until we end up crying and it’s very sad as the credits fade in because it’s a very special episode in which a character dies. But all things have to come to an end, and ultimately, I’m just kind of bored and don’t feel like bothering, so we’re going to be rerunning the Acceptable Best-Ish-Of-What-Are-You-Playing for the next few weeks until I’m pretty sure no one is going to notice.

What? Yes, I’m serious. I’m entirely serious and this is very much a real thing without any sarcasm. This is the series finale. Oh, and everyone dies and then comes back to life, that’s how the plot wraps up, I guess. I don’t care any more. Don’t bother me.

Bonus question: What dish are you best at cooking at home?

Andy McAdams: I’ll be playing more World of Warcraft and Satisfactory. I picked it up over the holidays and I was hooked. It’s so. very. addicting.

Cooking – I cook lots of things (we do a meal delivery service) but I wouldn’t say there’s anything I’m “best” at cooking. Maybe baking homemade, hand-kneaded bread? I think I’m kind of okay at that.

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): Gonna be working on the new house for a few more weeks at minimum, but I managed to sneak into Star Wars Galaxies Legends this week and will likely take a break to play more this weekend too. I had a lot of vendor restocking to do, fam!

Have you ever noticed that a lot of Eliot’s bonus questions are about food? He’s trying to make us all hungry, I swear. I’m not much of a cook, but my homemade cookies are the best!

(And no, Eliot’s not serious. You think we’d cancel WRUP? This is one of the most chill and fun things we get to do with the community. :P)

Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): Watching Carlo stream his Nova in Black Desert has inspired me to try and get back on that horse, but otherwise it’s likely another weekend of Elite Dangerous and Final Fantasy XIV.

I have a number of foods I consider to be something of my specialty, but one of my favorites is chicken karaage. It’s super easy to make and extremely tasty!

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Some low-key FFXIV ahead of the upcoming final bit of Ishgard Restoration, maybe some other single-player stuff over the weekend. Not quite sure about that yet.

I’ve actually been doing really well with my venison burgers lately; the local grocery store has venison in stock, which is intensely flavorful and delicious when cooked up right with a bit of cheese and sauce. Burgers in genera wind up being my area of expertise.

Mia DeSanzo (@neschria): If I have time, I will be playing No Man’s Sky, Rise to Ruins, Rimworld, and/or Black Desert. If not, I will be playing catch up on housework. Not really a fan of CUOH, but sometimes you just have to play that game.

I am a good cook in general, but it seems my top crowd-pleaser is fried chicken. I have also mastered cooking an eye of round roast into something tender and delicious, which is great because it is a cheap cut of beef.

Sam Kash (@thesamkash): I’ll be pretty light on gaming this weekend. I did start to play Ikenfell which is a fantastic old school style RPG set in a wizarding world. It’s very fun.

I can’t cook. Although I do fry a mean hotdog.

Tyler Edwards (blog): I’ve got a playtest for another of my game design projects on Sunday. Other than that, continuing with Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and Wolcen.

Bonus question: I’ve been getting a lot more into cooking lately, and I’ve developed a few dishes I’m pretty proud of. The best might be my paprika roasted veggies and tofu on rice? Or maybe the seitan wraps with creamy/spicy lime sauce?

Pierre, patron: I stopped playing Cyberpunk 2077 as even if it’s a good game, I feel the same boredom as when I tried to play The Witcher 3 (I don’t know why these CDPR RPGs bore me so fast). The universe doesn’t feel alive, and the numerous small non-blocking bugs constantly damaging the immersion are not helping. Instead, I started Horizon: Zero Dawn on PS4 again, and I’m enjoying it again. Such a great game, and not boring at all. No MMO for me this week. I’m still on an MMO hiatus that I can’t really explain.

Bonus question: I’m the world champion of quiche lorraine, a traditional French quiche that I manage to cook perfectly; no bragging here, I spent multiple years perfecting the recipe and the cooking process to try and achieve perfection, and I really think I did it! Happy New Year my fellow MOP readers, I wish you the best, especially a lot of fun in games and MMOs.

Every Saturday, join the Massively OP community and staff for What Are You Playing, our roundup of what MMORPGs and other games we’re hoping to play this weekend (with a bonus question or two for our amusement). Tell us what you’re up to! Go off-topic! And don’t forget to have fun!

So far this weekend I’ve mostly played BDO trying to level my Nova Winter Season character and get her through the story. Got around halfway through the Calpheon story last night. I have been enjoying how the story changes so much with the different crossroads choices you can make, particularly the one in Heidel, and the additions/changes they’ve made to it with whatever recent update put them in (O’dyllita probably). Aside from that though, while I am warming up to the Nova I still like some of the other classes better (though the Nova does seem far more robust as far as not taking as much damage as the others). I’m mostly trying to get her leveled and through stuff to get it over with so I can move on to other games I want to put my time into without feeling like I have the ticking clock of the winter season in BDO hanging over me. Maybe I’ll be able to resist the allure of the season play when the Spring season rolls around.

Cooking: Well, I’ve been trying my hand at sourdough stuff lately with variable success. The scones I made last weekend turned out good, but attempts at an actual loaf of bread are a fail so far. As for what I’m good at? Several things, but I suppose Spaghetti Carbonara could be counted as one of my specialties. It’s in no way authentic and is based on a recipe I got out of a Teen magazine way back in the ’80s sometime with a few tweaks I’ve made over the years. It’s always been a favorite in our house though and with anyone else I’ve ever cooked it for.

I’ve been sleeping 25 out of the last 48 hours, so my Weekend’s been spent playin’ Final Fantasy ZZZ. I know the whole “I guess you must have needed it!” response, which does get on my nerves, but holy frijoles, I think it was warranted this time.

As for the BONUS QUESTION I’ve been known to cook a mean rice cooker risotto, which is a bit inelegant but still tastes damn fine, and is rather quite accessible for disabled folks like me that can’t stand and stir a regular risotto for 45 minutes on end.

Why is there an image of black pink? Did they do a promotion for an mmo that was mentioned?

Mostly LOTRO, but my friend was doing world bosses in GW2 last night so I jumped on and joined her. I don’t usually do zerging (and wouldn’t want to do so regularly) but it was a fun change of pace.

I’m good at making soup.

Sorry to hear you will never never ever be doing this column again. I will look forward to seeing it again next week! ;)

Eliot a KPOP fan?

Finished Cyberpunk 2077. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m tempted to have another play-through but going to hold off for a while to allow some patches. Not sure what I’ll play now. Hard to think of a game, let alone an mmo, that has as great characters as Cyberpunk has. Any suggestions out there? Might get back into GW2 for a bit.

This week: Yes, the cast of Duck Dynasty tried to blow up Congress…

…without further dwelling on that, because I really don’t want to. I do want to thank however, the Bree-admin for making sure the nonsense that inevitably lead up to this event, didn’t trickle over to here for the most part. And if there is something akin of a “Safe Space”, you certainly helped create that here for many of us readers, including myself. And I’m personally indebted to you for doing that. /bows

Also this week: Where my alts I’ve selected to level are inching closer to the 60 cap in WoW, but I am feeling less enthusiastic about reaching it. So I’m way, way behind the curb, so to speak… :(

Bonus Answer: A mean spaghetti sauce with sausages. An idea I got from watching the first Godfather movie. o.O

Have a great week and weekend. And please stay safe! /bows

I guess you’ll be cooking when we go to the mattresses.

That scene where they talk about the tomatoes you use and making a good sauce is a classic. Is that the first or second? I can’t ever remember.

It’s the first movie, I looked up the scene before commenting. I always liked when Clemenza teases Mike about Kay on the phone: “Hey Mikey, why don’t you tell that nice girl you love her? ‘I love you, I love you with all of my heaaaaaart!'”

Yep, that’s the scene! <3

  • Genshin Impact – AR49. Did the Dragonspine grind. Woo, all of it! I was actually more successful in a group, using the free character Amber who coincidentally enough was made for this fight. Feels nice 100%ing this thing, and getting a maxed out 4star sword out of it. Now there’s another event for treasure hunting, and it seems relatively casual, but it rewards the first …cosmetic pets? Looks like it.
  • Last Cloudia – Still grinding the New Years event, giving some extra backstory scenes to characters.
  • Another Eden – Finished the (gist of the) grind for Miyu’s Other Tale dungeon! I now have a new 5star and a maximum upgraded exclusive weapon (effects) for her. (There’s still a Kill 100 achievement for killing the rare ‘shiny’ enemies in the dungeon, but that’s insane and there’s nothing else particularly beneficial.) Shifting my dungeon Red Keys towards general gear grind to get that done, and my Green Keys are still working on the Cruel Angel set. In terms of updates, AE has been quiet, but I think there will be something big this month. I’ve calmed down a bit, especially since I’ve been distracted by the… events… this week. For gacha I got my last unit I wanted for bonus points in an episode dungeon, so I’ll look at doing that sometime.
  • Distancing Hangouts – Nothin!
  • Logins: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Tales of Crestoria
  • Suspended: SWTOR, Remnant, Terraria

Also played a bit with the launch of TurtleWoW’s first major expansion – play as High Elves and Goblins!

Partner is immersed in Hades. I still don’t think he’ll exactly ‘100%’ it, but the epilogue is definitely happening any time now.

Pics: Yeah, they’re silly. But this silly princess character is the most weirdly, hilariously endearing to me, so getting this progress for her in meaningful to me. She’s far outside the meta (2017 for JP, mid 2019 for GL version; almost no updates for her since, or at least this version of her – there’s another far better ‘Another Style’ to luck into in grind/gacha eventually)… but I’ll absolutely use her for a while. ‘Meeting’ Miyu at the game launch gave me my first smiles and laughs.

Gonna try for a couple more challenges in PoE Heist League. Maybe work on a hideout design for Ritual League (I like to change hideouts for each league and I lucked into unlocking the Sunken Hideout recently, so I’ll probably be putting that to use.)

Bonus: Among other things I can make up some pretty good fettuccine alfredo.

The world must be spinning backwards as @Malcolm Swoboda constant updates about mobile stuffes got me to check out that area over the last few weeks.

I played some V4 (has a desktop version available) and BDO mobile (via Android emu Bluestacks) over the last few weeks. Both look pretty decent on desktop and have just as many people in an area for what passes as desktop MMOs these days -and the business models are converging too….unfortunately.

Controls are always the main drawback to mobile for me, but the V4 desktop assigns keys and they are changeable.

Bluestacks has key setups too that you can customize – add new ones, make macros, etc. But it is a lil touchy – sometimes they get lost, or get goofed up if you set a high resolution they might revert to 1080 positions, and you have to reload the config file you create to get them back to the correct positions, but you can do so on the fly.

I was able to play both at 21:9 with no issues. FPS would not stay at 100 on either, but needing the emu surely hurt that. 60 was pretty consistent except for server wide boss fights where there was about 50 people and plenty of effects going off -of course I maxed out everything.

Autoplay was there on both and can be toggled on/off and wrestling control back even takes some getting used too, but is surely necessary at times. There are also certain abilities that cannot be auto’d on both and V4 had some good customization to the auto -what skill to fire off in what order, which ones to never fire off auto, etc.

With the autoplay in place I felt like I was playing a RTS and not an MMO on both. As there was always things to be looking out for and doing/planning at the same time combat was happening -and I had to be ready to take back control to battle manually when needed. I punch above my weight alot so I probably had to do this more than most. There is no way I could do all of those things on a actual mobile device though.

Bonus: I am currently keto af -out of necessity, not marketing trend -most products that have keto stamped on them aren’t….they’re crap. Carbs were causing me to have high levels of anxiety and it took me forever to figure it out. So….a few weeks ago I posted on here my breakfast/fritata thing I came up with that I am still very hype about and now the other best thing I have come up with is a sausage and kale soup that I am equally in love with – moreso when it is cold…like today where the temps are 44-65F (that’s 7-18C for civilized places).

Late response to the @ but I would play more mobile MMOs if my phone or laptop (but especially phone, really) was more up to date. I have to play on low settings otherwise. I’m good for almost all 2D and most simple 3D games but MMO-scale isn’t so much.
