WRUP: Hamster buffers edition

They exist.

Note: This week’s guest installment of What Are You Playing was written by Terry, who is officially the youngest member of the state parole board at age 15 due to a clerical error and a refusal to admit to clerical errors. Terry interned with me for two days while I was laughing myself into a catatonic state at old He-Man PSAs, and he probably did a fine job or something. Just deal with it, I have some drunk to get.

Bonus question: What’s your favorite color?

Andrew Ross (@dengarsw): Pokemon Go’s happening, as is Pokemon Unite and Monster Hunter Stories 2. So much to catch up on!

Favorite color is probably black, but blue’s pretty cool too.

Andy McAdams: I’ve been roped in by Guild Wars 2 since Blizzard did well … all this. I haven’t preordered End of Dragons but I’m really really tempted to. I also picked up Ideology for Rimworld so I might play around in that a bit. Maybe some Deep Rock Galactic too in there

Bonus Question: Green. All the way.

Ben Griggs (@braxwolf): EVE Online. I can’t stop. Send help.

Blue. No, wait, yellaaaaaaugh!

Brianna Royce (@nbrianna, blog): I’m just grateful to have made it to the weekend. I’ll probably dabble in Albion Online and Star Wars Galaxies Legends and try to take it easy. Oh, and Guild Wars 2! Been playing a bit again with my kids.

My favorite color seems to change every few years, but right now it’s yellow.

Chris Neal (@wolfyseyes, blog): In-between some usual Final Fantasy XIV roleplay, roulettes, and MGP hoovering, I’ll be checking out The Ascent, become a spacehip with occasional space legs in Elite Dangerous, and maybe pick up a few chases in Dauntless. Mostly, though, I’ll be counting the two days down until I have 11 glorious days off from my second job.

Pink. Shocking, right? But also black and purple are favorite colors. Basically, I’m a pastel goth.

Eliot Lefebvre (@Eliot_Lefebvre, blog): Well I can tell you what it won’t be! Actually, I’m thinking mostly a single-player weekend, I’m free on some review time but I could use a bit of a lull. Maybe some time in Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.

Green. It’s always been green and it will remain green.

Sam Kash (@thesamkash): I’ll be playing through some of the Ice Brood Saga in Guild Wars 2. After the announcement last week we finally decided to get back in there and get caught up. I’m also playing Crowfall as well. The last few weeks have been so busy that I really haven’t spent nearly as much time in game as I want. I really need to get caught up with my guild so I can be a productive member of the team.

My favorite color is orange. Orange all the way.

Tyler Edwards (blog): I’m poking around Neverwinter’s revamp, and I plan to check out The Ascent. I also have another Wyrd Street playtest planned for Sunday.

Bonus question: Purple.

Every Saturday, join the Massively OP community and staff for What Are You Playing, our roundup of what MMORPGs and other games we’re hoping to play this weekend (with a bonus question or two for our amusement). Tell us what you’re up to! Go off-topic! And don’t forget to have fun!

I payed a month of ESO Plus and on my way to finish the leftover stories. I didn’t do much in the game since Summerset so i have a lot piled lol. I had started Murkmire apparently but i didn’t want to continue it now because i went straight to Elsweyr to take part in the event and finish the story there. Kind of messy compared to how i usually play ESO but i’ll take it lol.

I’ve been dabbling in Archeage Unchained too (yes yes, booo) but the ganking-from-stealth by mythic geared players, me a lvl 55 ultra noob ….i feel like crying >.< Feels like the game is completely dead…i don't see a single soul unless it's raids or main cities but every damn day among those 2 players on the server one will be there to gank me hahaha

Played a bit of FF14 before realizing any game that locks story progression behind dungeons was not for me. Shame as I was really enjoying it up to that point. Back to ESO full-time.

Purple.

I’m coming off a month or two of going completely off the gaming grid with visual novels and dating sims. This week I bought a 5TB external drive to supplement the 2TB internal drive that I’ve been living with for years and years. Probably a third of the original drive was taken up with simply all the MMOs that I cycle through and was reluctant to delete…first thing I did was move them to the new drive, and once that was done (taking up barely a sliver of the space it has available), I started combing through the 1000+ titles on my Steam backlist and began the great download project.

All the ones that I’ve been aching to play are installed; now I’m going through again for the ones that are piquing my interest, and old favorites I haven’t touched in a decade or more. Barely half the space on the drive filled! And while the downloads are happening, I think I’ll look in on ESO, which I’ve not played in ages but have been feeling a touch nostalgic for.

I spent a chunk of time this morning leveling a pally on my Lich King private server. I’m also toying with the idea of starting a new alt in DDO, probably a warlock but still on the fence. Anyone have any suggestions for a good solo class build?

Have a nice weekend, stay safe, wear masks, get the vaccine, etc, etc.

Bonus question: for the majority of my life my favorite color has been sky blue. Recently, it somehow became teal. Dunno why. I bet there’s some psychological reason for it that I’m unaware of.

You can’t go far wrong in DDO with a pure paladin build. Tanky, great resists, self-healing, useful enhancement trees and dish out decent enough damage.

It’s the first class that I got to 20 with in the game, never even thought of using hirelings.

I had just finished installing WoW on my new gaming computer the day before I found out about the lawsuit. Even after hearing this week’s podcast I was on the fence about playing it, but never took the plunge in either direction (neither uninstalling nor resubbing). After hearing about the Cosby suite, I uninstalled. As much as it pains me, WoW being one of my all time favorite games, I don’t think I’ll be returning anytime soon.

I have instead installed FFXIV and Crowfall. I am considering adding TemTem, LotRO, and Sword of Legends Online to that list. The End of Dragons trailer has me tempted to reinstall GW2, but then I remember that I just can’t get into that game. Ultimately I’m really not playing anything. I just moved in with my fiancée and most of my stuff is still either packed or at the old place waiting for me to finish packing. So between that and needing to take an emergency mental health day this week, I haven’t gamed too much. Most of what I have done has been playing Monster Hunter Stories 2 on switch, a few games on mobile, and getting games downloaded on my new computer. Oh and some IRL Pathfinder 2e with my game group, which was nice since we haven’t met in person in over a year.

So hopefully I will get some MMO gaming in at some point soon, but haven’t really done that yet.

Also my favorite color is dark purple. Something like Hex #762285

This week: Where I will no longer be mentioning WoW in context what I am doing. Nor will I be recommending it to anyone for the see’able future.

Also this week: I’m back in Blade & Soul for now.

Bonus Answer: Fear the Pink Dragon! (See depictment attached! <3)

Have a great week and weekend folk. Stay safe and get vaccinated! /bows

I counter your dragon with the Pink Fairy Armadillo. An animal that both sounds and looks like a joke, but isn’t.

How many hamsters before the buffer overflows I need to know? It’s important for uh… reasons.

I restarted in FFXIV. Why? No good answer. I was in a funk, am still in a funk.

I also started a new game of Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. I vow I will finish it for the second time, and then move on to the rest of the series. I swear I will this time.

And then funny enough I turned on my SNES Classic for about the third time since I bought it years ago and started a new game of FFVI. I’m weird about that game. I loved it when I played it when it was new, and then, just couldn’t play it again. So now that they’ve announced the pixel remaster, I’m just going to play the original instead. I dunno. *shrug*

I’ve also been playing through Solitaire Conspiracy on Steam. It’s just a variant of solitaire but with a silly spy plot told through FMV on top of the basics.

Bonus: Maroon, but any red is pretty good. I also kind of dig a nice burnt orange. I’ve never really thought about it, but maybe that’s why I like MassivelyOP’s color scheme so much.

Inquisitor: Martyr with the Prophet expansion. I’ve been a Crusader since Inquisitor launched, just love that meaty thumping through heretics and demons, but I gave the TechAdept a try this season and am really enjoying the total destruction of flame throwing tarantula constructs. Best pet class I have ever played. For those interested, there’s an excellent guide for the class up on Steam for Season 3.

When I’m not making the sector safe for the Emperor, I’m relaxing with a few other single player games.

Hammerhelm is a town building/slightly hack n slash/quest RPG. Nicely done, good graphics, okay combat, casual and relaxing with good town building and RPG elements.

Winkeltje (Dutch for little shop) is my favorite shopkeeper game. It has an easy, normal and hard mode (meaning how much money you have to pay back every week) and the wonderful creative mode, which allows you to build the shop of your dreams at no cost. There are many building parts, store furnishings, garden elements, and decorations you can use to personalize your shop, inside and out. You can craft or grow many things to sell or simply buy them at good prices and resell. Been in Early Access for over a year and constantly getting patches and upgrades. Great game.

Find of the week for me, though, has got to be The Forgotten City. Formerly a Skyrim mod, it’s metamorphosed into its own game. Being as it was originally a Skyrim mod, I thought it would be more of an open world RPG, similar to Enderal. But no, this is a game unto itself. You have to solve the grand puzzle. If anyone commits a crime while you are solving said puzzle, everyone dies and you have to start over. The kicker is that it is all set in a Roman city that time has forgotten. Beautiful. Art consultant was an archeologist who has worked at Pompeii for 20 years. Authentic and intriguing as heck.

Favorite color: Purple. You haven’t lived until you’ve painted an entire wall dark, rich purple.
