If you’re not a fan of a team running the table of an esports event multiple times, then you’re probably not going to be pleased with the outcome of World of Warcraft’s recent Mythic Dungeon Invitational because team Echo took the crown in the event – the fourth such time the team has won the MDI’s global finals.
Echo entered the tournament as the fifth seed overall, quickly moving its way through Complexity and Ambition to get to the semi-finals in 2-1 victories. The semis saw Echo prevail against the newly formed Chinese team of Aster Y in the teams’ first-ever clash to lock in their grand final spot, while Aster Y won its match against Ambition in the elimination bracket to make it into the final. Aster Y took initial victory in the Halls of Atonement, but Echo quickly rallied to claim the next three wins in Theater of Pain, The Necrotic Wake, and Spires of Ascension, earning them $150K in prize money.
While this season of the MDI event is done, WoW dungeon running esports continues on in December with the second season of The Great Push, which is now open to team registration for the Proving Grounds phase. The Great Push will broadcast its competition between December 10th and 12th.
